I am surprised no one has suggested the Balance. That lil' knife looks custom made for box cutting work! Small too, so NKP friendly. It is a wee bit over budget, however...still I think it bears adding to a short list.

I have made my choice. I want to thank everyone for their help. I am going to get a dragonfly FRN with the SpyderEdge. I will say that I do like the Delica, it was my second.

Excellent choice. Let's see a picture once you have the knife in hand.

***Edit****

You should also get a Spyderco Sharpmaker while your buying. Keep that knife sharp!

Yes, the Sharpmaker is designed to sharpen both kinds of edges as well as many tools and scissors.

The SharpMaker is a handy tool to have - but I've got to say, you can get a lot of cutting mileage out of a SE Spyderco before really needing to sharpen it.

An old girlfriend of mine carried a Delica. Actually used it to open a can of tuna once on a camping trip when we forgot the can opener. I will admit, the blade needed a little touch-up after that.

I don't think you will need the diamond rods. They are for re-shaping the bevel or jobs where you need to remove more metal faster. You will just be touching up and the medium and fine rods that come standard with the sharpmaker are all you really need for that.

Agree with Mongatu. Just get the standard rods and don't neglect the knife, but maintain it as soon as it loses its fine edge. The Sharpmaker is best for keeping a sharp edge sharp, although it can bring back a dull edge, too. The pamphlet and DVD that come with the SM are both excellent.

klmccanna,
My very first :spyder: was a 1st generation SE FRN Dragonfly, and it was easily my favorite everyday use pocketknife until I bought an SE Merlin in late 2002 (like a current SE Tasman but not quite as rust-resistant). I worked that knife harder than any other I've owned probably, and it was still an excellent knife when someone lost it about 3 years ago. I still consider it the gold standard by which all smallish pocketknives can be judged for general use. You will not be disappointed. Also, a standard Sharpmaker will be all the maintenance you need for the foreseeable future.

Doc, it's not a bra, it's a Tactical Pectoral Storage Garment. Far more manly :D

Well, Doc has posted advice of wearing a training bra to help conceal knives.

I didn't know Doc was a girl, that advice makes more sense now. :p

+1 on the Delica
mongatu wrote:Full flat ground Delica 4 is perfect for what you describe and cost is around $50 online. Plus it comes in several nice colors.

I was reading entire discussion, and yes you made the right choose, never i will be tired to suggest dragonfly or delica. Both them are in my edc rotation, and expecially with the last improvements they are perfects now, delica FFG its a great slicer i care one nice blue piece from almost 2 months and still its a great slicer without any touch on sharpmaker.
About dragonfly 2 still i do not have one, i have only a couple pieces of first gen and they are very good pieces, the new one really its perfect, with new safety wire clip.
Last thing, they have a superb grip perfect during job tasks.

Exactly what I thought Doc!!! :D

Everybody should be welcomed and helped out here but this is a bit much advice for a knife suggestion "to open lots boxs and bags of stuff!"... !

BTW Dragonfly SE or Ladybug SE is my suggestion!
