The Military rides again....

#1

Post by KBR »

After a very long hiatus, I have been bitten by the Spyder again.

As I mentioned in another thread about the Military, I had retired it from riding in my pocket after buying my CRK Sebenza....even going so far as selling/gifting the three 440V Millies in my collection. What I was thinking exactly I have no idea, however, the Millie bug has bitten me again and I went looking to satisfy that itch today at the local gun show. After searching high and low, there was only one Military that I found throughout the entire show...and I brought it home with me. Although I prefer the full PlainEdge, I settled for this S30V Millie in ComboEdge. The BEST feature, however, is that this Millie was produced before the switch to the bug on the blade....so the word MILITARY is stamped on this blade, just how I prefer it....screw political correctness. :p Needless to say, the Military is back in my pocket and my Sebbie is taking a long needed vacation.

I only hope that my bank account will be able to handle the beating that getting more Spyders is going to inflict on it....

Welcome back KBR. Nice find. I've never owned one but I prefer the "MILITARY" on the blade as well.

The Sebbie is a great knife for sure, but there's nothing like a good old Millie. Enjoy your new (old) one! Maybe the CE will grow on you. I know it did on my Endura (and my Stretch FRN, in fact).

The MILITARY etching is SO cool. Too bad they dropped it. I would like to have it on my Millies.

I'm not a combo edge fan but on a blade as long as the Military's i could live with it, i just need to learn to sharpen them more to appreciate them better.

I have had the CPM S30V Millie for several months and am pleased to say that with a regular Sharpmaker I can keep it super sharp. As big as it is, it fits just right in the pocket and hand, it has become my EDC. Well, along with my cricket.

IMHO, the CE Military is just about the perfect match of PlainEdge to SpyderEdge, due to the length of the blade. I would have really preferred the PE, but the CE will do just fine. As soon as I got home, I touched up the PE portion on my Sharpmaker due to very minor chips that may have been overlooked when the knife was produced....no biggie since the S30V was super razor sharp when I finished. I then put some metal polish followed by some Tuf-Glide, on the blade and pivot, to further protect from corrosion....which I usually do to all my knives.

Angus, thanks for the 'welcome back' to the forums....been gone way too long.

Dennis, sadly, I don't believe this :spyder: IS a full fledged Millie without MILITARY stamped on it. I was disappointed to see the change, however, that is the world we live in today. Was very happy to have found this one, though. :D

Oh, and Jim, I also find my SE SS Cricket to be a perfect complement to the Millie.

I wonder if they'll ever put the military writing on the blade again. I wanted a military untill i noticed that the current models do not have the "MILITARY" on the blade. I also like the old jimping.
