It was -once again- great. Many thanks to the Glessers for having us :)

Things worth mentioning:

1. Lion Spy: it's smaller than I expected it to be. It's a beautiful knife, but it could use some more texture on the G10 side. I found it a bit slippery at some points. Overall a great knife.

2. Native 5: great improvements to the backlock. Great action, nice fit and finish, and CPM S35VN steel. Still not very fond of the Native design in general, but for someone who doesn't like Natives: this one is by far the best Native yet.

3. Persian XL: wait for the pics. It's HUGE.

4. improved backspring for the FRN UKPK: really nice action, much better than the production models I've handled so far.

5. Squeak: a knife I raved about after last year's meet, and this time we got to see what I believe was a production prototype. It handles really well, it looks nice, and it probably will be quite cheap. However: I would not recommend black FRN for the production models, and I'd like the action to be a little stiffer. Maybe incorporate the new backspring from the UKPK?

6. Straight Spine Stretch: this was shown to us as a possible change to the current Stretch. There are quite a few people who don't like the looks of Spyderco's drop-point blades; me being one of them. The straight spine version has very similar ergos, the same edge, and it handles just like a regular Stretch would. It just looks WAY better to me. Sal, if you're reading this: this is an instant home-run. You've just 'fixed' the Stretch. I want one! (maybe even two ;) )

Many more great knives went to my hands today, but these were the things that really stuck with me. Maybe after Wouter's photos are online I could add some more ;)

edit:
I totally forgot to mention the nice yellow Dragonfly 2, with H1 steel, and (ofcourse) a hollow grind. Totally screams 'holiday pocket knife' to me :) Oh, and all-screw-construction :) NICE!

Noooo the Stretch is fine as-is! The DP blade is functional and I think it looks good. It'll be interesting to see this new one--what was the handle material and steel?

Sal mentioned (and I believe he's right) that they _only_ altered the spine. The blade would retain all functional aspects it has now, and won't handle any different. It would just look .. better :)

the handle was the black FRN handle from the Stretch 2, blade steel was VG-10. They really only changed the spine ;)

Wow I hope somebody will post pics of all these new models. This is very exciting and I love how :spyder: is constantly innovating and moving forward with their designs.. they don't just try to make a few new models to fill up a catalog, but they are future proofing their legacy.

The idea behind the straight spine Stretch was to 'improve' (after some customer-complaint who didn't like it) the spine of the blade leading to 'in-between-model Delica-Endura' with a 50-50 choil which those last two mentioned classics don't have.

I found the Lionspy (Name is not certain yet) a little too beefy. The blade is really too broad IMHO.

Indeed, that Persian (in Brown micarta) was a HUGE BMF. I think they will fire me if bring it to work to peel my daily kiwi :D

Des Horn? The one with the 'Sturm und Drang'-style design: 3 grooves both in the blade and the handle? Awesome design, THAT was a sweet little gentleman-knife!
Yes, that one ! Lovely.
Persian XL: wait for the pics. It's HUGE.
I must say, I didn't like it that much. If not for the hole it could have been one of those giant Cold Steel products. All in my opinion!
4. improved backspring for the FRN UKPK: really nice action, much better than the production models I've handled so far.
I agree, the "feel" was tweaked to perfection.
Straight Spine Stretch: this was shown to us as a possible change to the current Stretch.
While it was functionally exactly the current Stretch, the straight spine made it look like a very generic Spyderco. The current blade gives the Stretch a strong own identity.

As with most things, the beauty of a Spyderco drop point (or lack of same) is in the eye of the beholder. While I've grown to love my Stretch, I can understand that others may not find it attractive and know that Spyderco has to build what sells. I'm also sure that, if the straight spine version makes it to production, I will buy at least one.

I didn't like it that much either... but it sure was HUGE ;)

You're right about the identity of the Stretch. However, to me the spine was what made it 'ugly'. The straight spine might make it more 'generic', but it would make me buy one ;)

I agree, I would buy one too, and I'm not even opposed to the idea, I just don't want to see the regular Drop Point Stretch go away...I like the variety, and having a blade shape unlike the common leaf shape or endura/delica is something that appeals to me. Maybe if they switched to that shape, they could still produce one variant in the original blade, maybe a ZDP/G-10 variant or something. I would hope so, seeing it disappear completely would be sad.

Yes, it was another very enjoyable Spyderco meet! Thanks to Sal, Eric, Jur and the rest of the crew. I was very interesting to see and handle the new models. I also had the great pleasure of meeting Neno and seeing his smooth ParaMilitary2.
