Tenacious Problem

#1

Post by Fr12nk »

When i first got it everything was fine, but couple days later, the blade was harder to open and it sounded like the blade is rubbing against something, so i loosened the pivot screw and everything was fine, but couple days later same thing happen so i tried to loosen the pivot screw and it was still rubbin against something so whats wrong. Also when i first had it when its closed the tip of the blade was centered, but now the blade is almost touching the side of the handle, is this normal, also sorry that its so long.

Sounds like you got something in the pivot. Could be almost anything, you can take it apart to clean it and relube it, or even just try some compressed air. The off center blade could be just because you have the pivot screw really loose. There are ways to recenter the blade, probably someone else can explain than better than I can but if you use a piece of paper to hold the blade to the side and then retighten the pivot that usually helps.

Try washing out the pivot area with HOT, soapy water and an old toothbrush. Then, blow it out with compressed air. Then WD-40 to displace any remaining water and blow out again with compressed air. Re-lube with your choice of lube and adjust the pivot to your liking. If that doesn't help, then you may have to disassemble to get a better look at what may be causing the problem.

before you take it apart it could be that you are missing a washer...
check that first! does it have lift to right play?

I don't think that it would be a missing washer if the blade started out straight and is now off center. I'm thinking that because he said that he had loosened the pivot a lot to make it smooth, that its most likely fixed by tightening.
