indoor outdoor spyderco

#1

Post by Dragan »

Hi im looking for a spyderco folder for everyday indoor outdoor use.I currently own caly 3 vg10 PE and tenacious PE.Is there a model which is light enough to carry in your pocket ,thin enough to slice well and strong enough to do all the outdoor(camping, cottage) use.Really interested in your inputs.
Thanks everybody.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

Aren't the models you already have satisfactory for those uses? I would think so. If you want something longer the Endura 4 FFG is a great knife at a great price. It has a 3.75 inch blade and is both light and sturdy.

I rock the Endura Ffg g10, and manix 2 carp steel and para 2 s90v doing everything I've tasked with thus far. I plan on adding a lionsteel spyderco job they showed at shot 2011 as well as the tuff ... Oh of corse the mili sprint brown m4 steel and a gayle "buttery smooth " Bradley

There's really no going wrong with a FFG Endura 4. It's light, can take one **** of a beating, the VG-10 blade is awesome, and it's not very expensive. My Endura can take just about everything and has replaced my Military (which costs twice as much) as my heavy duty folder, as it offers similar performance, but hurts your wallet a little less should you have to replace it at some point ;)

Yes, that's exactly why I bought two FFG Enduras. :)

I would think the FRN Stretch would fit your requirements. Plus, it's available in several edge types and two different steels.

You can't go wrong with a Para2. Collectively it's probably one of the most praised Spyderco knives in recent years. But, some raise a very good point in the fact that the Endura FFG can fit much the same bill, for a lot less cash. I'd be a lot less upset if I went camping and lost my Endura than my Para2. Love them both, but the Endura would be cheaper to replace, and a lot easier to find in stock.

You might want to consider the Pacific Salt for a camping/cottage knife due to the rust resistance of the H1 blade.

Even though I own (and love) my Pacific Salts, I'd take the Endura any day if I'm not going to be in a salt-water environment. I really appreciate H1 for its rust-proofness, but in all other respects VG-10 is tons better. Not to mention the FFG on my Endura, which just kicks butt :D

if you want a stout folder for outdoor may i direct you to saber ground endura or gayle bradley, and as for slicing either a manix, para, or mili.

+1 on the military. it's a whole lot of blade in a slim, easily carried profile.

I would go for a Stretch as would always have a FB knife with me for the outdoors anyway. Endura is good too. For that matter most mid size Spydercos would do well. The Bradley is gorgeous and useful, but is a little heavy. The same goes for the Manix2.

You're choosing Spyderco so I don't think you're in danger of making a bad choice :)

What about the Caly 3.5?
Light,an excellent slicer and long enough for most tasks.

I'd say Para2 is a perfect hybrid, the Stretch leaning towards the "indoor" side, the Caly3.5 too. The Gayle Bradley and Manix2 are more "outdoor".

You will ultimately have to compromise on every category in order to get a knife that is good at all of them. A jack of all trades is a master of none.

I'd say the Gayle Bradley is in the running for that.
