Military due for an upgrade?

Pretty simple query. Will the millies ever see a construction update like the para did. The real big difference would be the pivot bearing. Might solve that rare off centering. Flat screws, polished liner, four way clip, large lanyard hole, but this time keep the rear handle flare.

Is this something in the works, near future, or never?

Maybe throw in a compression lock? I do consider my g10 ti / m4 an upgrade :)

No bushing pivot for the military please. It is smooth enough as it is. What do you need more smooth opening for at the price of blade play?

I like the Military as is but I am positive if Spyderco makes changes it will be for the better. Comp lock would be nice.

Last I heard the Military will be a pilot model for the stop lock. Not sure if that means a phase-out of the liner lock, but I'd imagine they'll keep it around in one form or another.

We have had the Military on the design board for quite some time now. We've adapted a new lock for (stop-lock) and it's been in engineering. Then we'll make any ergo and clip adjustments and bring out a "2" model. Don't know yet if we'll use the new pivot bushing on the new Military.

We only have one engineer and Eric and I are responsible for the designs. While we also use outside designers, and we have Michael Janich in-house, the workload for so many models is often high.

I don't think we'll disco the original model when the new model comes out.

There's a few different threads discussing the Stop Lock, including one that has links to the patent illustrations.

It's pretty different from other knife locks, and I'd say it reminds me of how one might make a lockback without a bar on the back.

Really? I don't see any resemblance to either of those locks. Looks more like a highly tweaked mid-lock to me.

I would like to see a video or pictures of the Stop Lock in action (prototype?) to help some of the less technically inclined, like me, to know how it operates. I searched around for a bit and couldn't find much info.

It might be too much to ask, because of letting out too much information. Maybe I'm dreaming.

Maybe Michael Janich could do some magic with it, but I don't want to see him flicking a knife open with his nose. (Okay, maybe I do! :p )

If the lock pin has 2 springs on the sides pushing it in place... I'd say we are looking at SOG's arc lock, BM's axi's lock.
Same thing diffrent cosmetic appearence. Any way,does anyone know who was the first to use a vertical moving pin or ball that slides across the carved out arc like butt of the blade and locks it in?

Are you looking at the patent drawings and description? At any rate, the drawings show a few iterations of the mechanism, none of which look like an axis/arc to me. The only spring listed supports the lock bar that keeps the locking anvil in place.

Unlikely we'll see any pics of a yet unused lock mechanism that is still in development. It may look a bit different than the patent drawings by the time it comes out.

I give up! :D Will have to look at that lock when its developed ,now I think that it may reseamble the ball bearing lock if it has a main spring instead of two on the sides.
