I like my waved PE Endura for motorcycle carry because of the fact that opening can be achieved so easily without having to use the hole. It's an amazing creation, when you get right down to it.
Frankly, I'm surprised that politicians have not sought to ban it under the pretext that it's somehow more dangerous than standard knives.

spyderco serrations dont "get caught on clothing" they slice right through it :pSQSAR wrote:IMHO: The 'wave' feature is one that brings benefits to a blade in a SD application, given the speed of deployment. That being the case (and as a wise man once told me) serrations are a "no, no" for SD blades as they have more potential for getting caught on clothing.

Hey you could always get a CS serrated knife...the serrations break and snap right off when they hit clothing..or when you sharpen them...bottom line is after awhile you end up with a PE knife.....Doc :p

Thanks catamount ... I love it... :D :spyder: :D It was a pleasure doing business with you...
Technically serrations (even sharp ones) get caught on everything. They force materials to linger in the cutting edge and that's why they work so well. They don't necessarily "snag" in the traditional sense of a saw but it does increase the tension a little bit.delicafreak wrote:spyderco serrations dont "get caught on clothing" they slice right through it :p
The truth is a SHARP plain edge doesn't do anything but dance through materials. They require less grip tension too it seems. Janich says SE causes clothing to roll more acting as a natural barrier. Dr Snubnose's tests prefer PE unless in hawkbill format. Still I think those results are more a testament to the hawkbill design than the teeth (they just aren't as penalized).
That's SD tho. I love serrated Spydies for many duties :) .

SE knives in general are a no-no when it comes to SD...there are just a few exceptions...some Hawkbills, like the Merlin...the Mas Ayoob SE and the Mini-Pit Bull from Timberline CE, the cheap CRKT fishing FB knife called the MUK, all do not get caught up on clothing according to my tests and cuts like a PE when coming in contact with clothing...Be aware that the Hawkbill suffers from the inability to use the tip for thrusting..That being said, still the best blades for SD are PE knives period....Use the SE for utility and the PE knives for SD...When it comes to PE knives I find the best SD knives take on the blade configuration of Wharncliffe ie. Yojimbo, Ronin, Wharning by Meyerco, Reverse Curved blades like the Adventura, Traditional Tanto style Japanese blade shapes like the Hissatsu, (Not the American Tanto style) and Kiridashi shape edges and points combined with slight hawkbill curve in the center of the blades ie. RJ Martin's Rampage and honorable mention goes to Bowie Style blades like the Chinook...Doc :D

Your post makes it sound like you've either a lot of experience or done a lot of testing. Have you?delicafreak wrote:spyderco serrations dont "get caught on clothing" they slice right through it :p
