I like the Rat3 and the Mini-Pit Bull from Timberline, but my favorite is the "Wharning" by Meyerco a Dirk Pinkerton design, a small wharnie with the cheapest price tag, that out performs the Ronin and matches the Yojimbo, in cutting power, but in a smaller package....Doc :D

+1. One of my favorite fixed blades every made. The finish is amazing and I take it with me on every hiking and camping trip.psychophipps wrote:You would be pretty hard-pressed to find a better small fixed-blade knife than the Spyderco Street Beat. Absolutely top-notch in every respect for the price.

....not that I've seen every production fixed blade in it's size category, but the Street Beat is quite remarkable. Like all the good Spydercos, it sets the standard for production knives and rivals custom quality, fit and finish. Despite its diminutive size, there isn't much you can't accomplish with this knife.psychophipps wrote:You would be pretty hard-pressed to find a better small fixed-blade knife than the Spyderco Street Beat. I owned a Street Beat and liked it. Nice finish, in fact, too nice for me.
You could get Mini Pit Bull and a Wharning as Doc suggests, throw in something like a discontinued CRKT Ryan Plan B, and still have plenty of change leftover. You'd have variety, bang for the buck, and if lost or ditched, they'd be fairly easy and cheap to replace. I also like the Blackhawk Crucible.

I'm a Spydie-Fanatic, but I've owned various versions of the Case Small Finn for years (CA379). It is a little 6" stacked leather handle Trout-and-Bird knife that is a great multi-tasker... It has a 3 1/8" straight point blade with a hollow grind. K-Bar also makes a version...
Kinda old-style, but it fills a niche...
I also like A.G. Russell's Hunter Scalpel. It is a 4 1/2" fixed blade with a 2 1/2" FFG blade. Very thin and very precise. The sheath is a snap-on kydex one-piece with an integrated swivel and clip. Very useful.
