Forum Knife 2011; GITD Dragonfly 2?
Forum Knife 2011; GITD Dragonfly 2?
The Subject of Forum Knives was brought up in another thread, and it got me thinking; the Dragonfly 2 would be a great choice for 2011. It's been a popular model for years, and has just gotten a very nice facelift. It would also be inexpensive enough that most anyone who wants one can afford it.
Assuming, it is available, Glow In The Dark FRN would be really cool, IMO. Another conventional, but funky, color would also work.
What do you think?

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

I would be in for one, as I would be in for any Spyderco Forum knife, regardless of specs. Assuming availability of the color, the question Spyderco would have to answer for themselves would be whether the demand, either for Forum knives or a combination of Forum and unmarked ones, to justify the quantity they'd have to order.

I've been toying with buying a Dragonfly 2. The original was both my first "premium" knife and my first Spyderco.
If we can arrange a GITD FRN handle, I'm in. Whatever steel is in there!

I really like the Dragonfly. Don't care for glow in the dark and it has two problems:
1) EDC Forums supplied the GITD material, Spyderco has never purchased it so the sourcing is in question.
2) These scales have to be machined, so the pricing would be based on the "expensive" G-10 Dragonfly rather than the inexpensive FRN Dragonfly

Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

OP mentioned GITD FRN handles, so they would be molded.Sequimite wrote:I really like the Dragonfly. Don't care for glow in the dark and it has two problems:

Though I do have doubts whether FRN could be made with a GITD feature that actually glows and not just "kinda glows". Also I don't know how adding extra GITD materials into the mix would affect the other properties of FRN, not that anyone would go thumping on it. :p

As much as I like the D'fly, I think many here would rather see a Golden made model. GITD is pretty cool, but I don't see it as very functional, I tend to use my knives in the daylight. That said, I would still buy one as a forum knife.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Blue G10 -- cool!GohawnFG wrote:+1. I'd love to see the Dragonfly in blue G-10.
Perhaps I missed it -- was there a 2010 forum knife?
