has spyderco considerd ergonomic shears?

Post by chuck buck »

ive been doing lots of small plant pruning and my scissors kill my hands after like 5 min. i, as a nut, use a knife for most i can but need something more precise.

scissors with spyderco's steels and ergonomics could be great.

Yes, a trully sharp, ergonomic pair of scissors from spyderco would be awesome; especially if they could be taken apart in an instant for cleaning and sharpening.

And if both blades have the spyder hole it could double as wire cutters/strippers ;)

Umm...form follows function, and as it happens, scissors have exactly two holes on each blade--where the fingers and thumb go.

This Christmas I was shocked to see a company advertising utility knives, for cutting open boxes, on mainstream prime-time tv.
It was Fiskars and their heavy duty scissors that come apart. Would any of the networks even consider airing a commercial about easy to use one hand opening knives?
Technically scissors are just a pair of chisel ground knives stuck together on a pivot, there would be nothing out of the ordinary about Spyderco making that. I do not often have reason to use scissors, but when I do, it would be nice to have a pair of premium stainless steel blades instead of the ordinary stuff you usually get.

I think the Spyderscissors are a great idea, and would definitely help get the Spyderco name out there.

I thought I heard that spyderco had made sheers at one point long ago? I could be way off, one of the spydie scholars can correct me or confirm and give more details

yes! a pair that can be taken apart like kitchen scissors , frn handles and decent steel.... could get way dorky and have each side be a useable knife in its own right.

As far as the knife companies I know of, CRKT makes shears: http://www.crkt.com/Crossover-Shear
Not to bash on CRKT but IMO those have just too many gimmicky features.

Perhaps Chinese made with FRN handles and 8Cr13Mov steel? I mean who would buy a 50$ pair of shears? Apart from us knifenuts... It just wouldn't survive with such a price tag.
I'd be perfectly happy even if it was a part of the Byrd line. :)

Not exactly. But they did market a pair of small ceramic scissors made by one of their Japanese makers, G Sakai, that were intended for fly fishermen...

They had a prototype a few years ago. Very nice, but never made it to production.

I'd like one, even one made in China as long as it is made to Spyderco standards :D

Gingher makes some of the best fabric shears in the world. I don't think :spyder: could compete and hit the same pricepoint and make it worth their while, regardless of blade steel.
Scissors for cutting up a chicken and complete disassembly for sanitizing would be useful, though.

Spyderco kitchen scissors, separable and useable as knives... Packaged with a Sharpamper... This could be the ultimate gateway drug to Spyderholicism!

I'd definitely be in for some H1 shears with FRN handles...
