Manix 2 H-1 + Pink Manix 2 Pictures

#1

Post by Metals of war »

Dear Sal and fellow forum members,

I got my new pink manix 2 today. :)

While I was playing with the blade in the office, I get a great idea, well I kind of hope it's great. I'm putting together a BOB backpack and I want a folder for that. What I'm looking for is built like a tank, good cutting performance, minimal amount of maintenance, very secure grip, rock solid lock, affordable price. I would have a fixed blade in the bag as well, but in a disaster situation I might lose it. I also want the knife to be well capable of self defense.

The regular manix 2 with 154cm steel is great but it requires some maintenance regularly, light oiling etc. to prevent rust. If it would be H-1 it would be nearly maintenance free. Maybe orange G10 or yellow FRN handle. :D

So why not make a very heavy duty robust folder with such a resistant steel, if its available?

Please tell me what you think about my idea, and hope it makes sense at all.

The Pink Manix 2 is really a non knife people frendly knife. No one was scare in the office, actually everybody wanted to touch it.

Perfectly centered blade, like always from Golden.

Pink Manix is awesome. It's so not the kind of knife you expect in pink. H-1 would be cool.

Like those pics Gabe. Mine came in the post yesterday and used it a bit today. It's of course just as usable as the regular black Manix 2. I put a blue square knot paracord on it. Great knife.

I think H-1 sort of lends itself to the regular Manix 2 since H-1 is very difficult to do ffg. The hollow grind is not a problem at all on this knife. Orange scales, well I dreamt of them on the Manix 2 just the other night :D

Exactly, hollow ground would be my desire anyway on the H-1 Manix2. It would be a heavy duty beater of a folder not a slicer IMHO.

H-1 Manix 2 with yellow G-10 would be pretty cool.

Like the idea of an H1 Manix2. G10 would be cool but yellow FRN if the mold is already up would lend itself to a sprint run, which is much more likely than a full H1 run in my opinion. So many Manix derivatives and nice H1 models that I think it just makes more sense to discuss a possible yellow FRN sprint.

Hey,

Well I would like to see the H-1 Manix 2 as a permanent model, because if it's only a sprint run than it would became an immidate safe queen. Maybe do a yellow G-10 sprint with saber ground H-1, and than do the regular model with yellow frn and again saber ground H-1.

I think the only problem with a lot of knives (I've heard many requests for a H1 Millie) is the liners. If you notice, no H1 knives have liners. I suppose the liners would have to be made from H1 as opposed to a high chrome steel and this is probably prohibitively expensive.

One can only dream.

Seems to me that if you can put a high-hardness high-speed tool steel like M4 in a set of titanium liners for a millie, you should be able to do the same with H1. Of course, that is also a LOT more expensive than cheap stainless. The Mariner salt nests an H1 blade inside inexpensive stainless steel handles. I think this is doable, but I don't know what kind of limitations there might be in engineering the piece for longevity, aside from (I assume) probably wanting phosphor bronze washers in the pivot..

The new FRN translucent scales for the lightweight Manix 2 sound like a good fit for H-1 steel were they incorporated in a Manix 2 run. They are linerless and can be made in any color. :) If it happens I'm getting one.

I would definitely would like to see liners in a H-1 or any Manix 2. We can not sacrifice the strength over weight and the ease of production. It could have titanium liners, 420 stainless liners...

Manix 2 is a tank or may I say is THE tank in the current Spyderco selection. It is affordable. I would keep every single attribute is has other than change the steel to H-1 so one wouldn't needed to worry about rust.

I would get one if it came with full titanium liners. I'll let you guys decide for the scales...

Titanium liners would work, especially covered in grippy G-10.

Hi Metals of War,

What you are asking would be very challenging. There re many metal parts in a Manix. Each pat would have to be custom made in a special material to make a rust proof Manix. I think the efort and cost would far exceed the potential market.

Yeah, I was thinking about this idea, the ball bearing, the spring and guide in there. That is a lot of stuff. The idea sure is nice but like sal said.. cost prohibitive!

The idea would lend itself a bit better to the Manix 1 design with a lockback I think.

Since there seems to be more lightweight Manix 2 versions coming out lately....any chance an H-1 Manix 2 Ltwt in yellow frn could become a reality? If so, I would jump on that in a heartbeat! What do you say, Sal? :)
