They fit some models without any alteration (C42 Viele, Cricket etc) and fit the Delica, Endura, Manix 2, Para2 etc with a slight widening of the screw holes. Altering the holes takes a few minutes with a diamond file or Dremel. There is a pic of one on a Para2 further up in the threadjylong_away wrote:Hey, has anyone else tried the usaknifemaker.com clips on their spydies? These clips sold by USAknifemaker supply were originally started to give the market a generic clip that would fit the most knives and also work for makers to use on their customs. Its set up to work on the millions of knives sold that use the standard Spyderco original three hole pattern like those seen on countless models from their early 1980's models to present day. This clip has been used on millions of knives in the industry since Sal first invented it. You can find it on Kershaw and Benchmade knives and many other companies from all over the world and although they look different all Emerson USA made knives use the same three hole pattern for their clips and Spyderco clips will swap and fit right on any Emerson knife and visea versa. So those clips sold by USAKMS are set up for that pattern to fit Emerson knives and others using that pattern. Can they fit on the D4- E-4 and others?jylong_away wrote:Hey, has anyone else tried the usaknifemaker.com clips on their spydies? They are not designed to. The hole pattern on the D4- E4- Para 2- Manix 2 and more is a tighter pattern than the one on the Emerson and original Spyderco knives. If one wants to adjust the holes in these generic clips and make them bigger or oblong/oval shaped one could make these fit. I've seen it done. It could be iffy for how well it stays put though and I know some guys that tried and ruined their clip doing it so if you do this be sure to take your time and do it such that the clip cannot move from side to side even with the screws tightened down all the way. If the hole is that much larger than the diameter of the screw going through it that gap around the screw stem can allow for the clip to move sideways when bumped even if the screws are tightened all the way down. Ideally you want that hole just big enough for the screw to pop through so there is no side to side movement of the screw or the clip once mounted or as little as you can do for making it work. You might also keep in mind that they are all folded over in the same spot so they will fit okay on some knives and not so good on others.
The fold over point for the 180 degree bend is in different locations when you check this for making a low rider clip and this is the case even on the same knife comparing tip up to tip down locations for a low rider. If you made a custom knife from the ground up you could build a low rider clip to fit it and you could drill and thread holes in the correct spots for both tip up and down so the clip mounted the optimum spot in either position. But as it is on most knives if a low rider fits for tip up just right it will likely overhang off the end by quite a bit in tip down and if a clip is made to fit tip down it will fall short of sitting correctly for tip up. Usually if the clip overhangs off the end of the knife its okay. Well, unless its tip down and the clip interferes with the thumb stud banging it or your thumb nicking it through a Spyderco hole when opening the blade which can happen. But generally speaking you do not want the clip overhanging off the spine. Some want the clip to overhang so it buries the knife all the way. Its not always possible though. When it hangs off the spine the palm can pick that up readily and it can not only make the clip less invisible to the hand but be uncomfortable in some grips. The low riders usually stand up high enough to be dang hard to make invisible in the hand as it is so you don't usually want to put them too close to the spine if you can help it. So when buying these generic clips be advised they may work great on some knives and bury the knife fine but on others well, not so much.

You want to modify the position of the screws, but not make the hole too large (see Steve's explanation above for why).jylong_away wrote:Thanks for that, and for the PM(message!) too.
When you mention 'widen the holes' is that more to fit the *size* of the screws going in, or to modify to 'position' of the screws? Sorry if it's confusing!

It fits the Para2 well for tip up carry, it overhangs for tip down. The clip is bulkier than Steve's (at least the ones I have are slimmer and more refined), but that works ok with the Para. Not quite as well with the Delica imho.
I have Steve's clips on a Stretch 2 and a G-10 Delica. Strongly considering getting a slightly beefier one from him for the gray Para2 sprint :D

[quote="NoFair"]I'd love a low riding clip from Spyderco. In the meantime I've been happy with titanium ones from STR and usaknifemaker.com
