Spydie bite

#1

Post by J Smith »

It has been a while sense one got me but this morning was a doosy.
I scored a great deal on a green sprint manix last week and today I was making up a couple monkey fists and dropped it.The knife landed like a clever across the back of my heel.I have it taped up right now, hoping it seals up enough not to go get stitches.Who am I kidding,it would take a half gallon of blood on the floor before I would think about going to the doctor.Lesson learned again about using a knife barefooted.

Ouch. That doesn't sound good. :(

I got my first spydie bite a few weeks ago. Opened my brand new Tenacious. And, then closed it across the top of my thumbnail... and EASILY cut right through the nail. Bled through the nail. It's slowly growing out. :)

I nailed myself really well on a Para Military. I was closing it and like an idiot nailed my thumb.

Hope you get better.

I nailed my middle finger on my Manix2 when I first got it. Wasn't all that bad, but I felt...initiated, in a way.

I'm not sure if it's true or if it was just "tough guy talk" but I have heard of people using krazy glue as a temporary measure to seal the wound & stop the bleeding. I'm not recommending anybody do this, just throwing out there something I heard.

Yeah, Manix 2 holds the honor of having given me the worst knife bite ever.

My father was a paramedic for years and he says he's used this multiple times, so I guess it's legit.

I was playing with my Izula while talking to my girlfriend on skype. About 20 seconds after she said "you are going to cut yourself" I went to stick it in the sheath and I did cut myself right in front of her.

LOL darn hindsight.

My worst chop to date was a freshly sharpened pacific salt closing on my finger. It went through skin like a hot knife in butter. Must have got a nerve too because I lost feeling in the tip for a few weeks.

Daang...if the edge on your XHP Manix is anything like mine, that's one of the last knives I'd want to get bitten by. It's probably the best set of bevels I've seen from the factory on any of my knives. Hope it heals up well!

PS-Luckily I've only had some minor nicks from my Tenacious and Endura...but it's probably only a matter of time before I get a real one. lets hope not

My wife tells me all the time that I am going to cut myself, all I say is "well duh!"
Most of my cuts are very minor though.

I was actually trying something (stupid) with my new M2 that I read in a post here--it required me to flick my wrist while opening the M2 while holding the lock back (why?)...the blade opened--rebounded--and in perfect synchronization with my rebounding wrist--the tip punctured my abdomen.
Now, being a portly sort of fellow, said abdomen was well positioned to received said blade tip. Thankfully, my portliness has a lot of infrastructure to protect what really matters underneath.
Never felt a thing and never would have known it if I hadn't watched it happen. I liken this to an accidental discharge, for which the even the most experienced are known for (in competitive circles, too).

I handed over my XHP Manix to a friend of mine to show him. The free swinging of the blade when the lock is released caught him on the back of one of his fingers. He was holding a paper towel on it for a while.

I kind of wish the Manix didn't have this issue.

Knock on wood, but I don't think I've caught the back of my fingers yet. Sides of fingers, fronts of fingers, but not back. Well, I got the back once when another brand's back lock disengaged.

I actually like that aspect of the Manix, which is what makes the deployment so smooth. I can't really think of a way to have a silky-smooth pivot and not have the blade swing freely when the lock is disengaged manually...for me, the placement of the polymer grips makes it easy for me to keep my fingers out of the way during one-handed closing-I just keep my thumb on one side, and on the other side, the 3 fingers I'm not using to close it, I usually kind of grip the clip with. I've had a few close calls though, and even nicked my pinkie a little bit, and I could see how if you're not careful, it could be nasty.

The medical field uses liquid bandages regularly. Using super glue burns because it has acetone in it, but it is highky effective. The medical liquid bandage is just spoer glue with tbo acetone.
