I like carbon fiber a lot, too, normally. It says, "high-tech." But, I like the smooth "satin finish" of the carbon fiber on my Caly 3 better than the rough texture CF on the Sage 1. A lot better. Still get the cool CF look, but I like the feel of the satin finish. In fact, I think the smooth satin finished CF of the Caly is grippier than the rough CF on the Sage 1. Go figure, eh?
Just my personal opinion, of course. Your mileage may vary!

I don't buy on credit, but if I try to keep up with all of the new offerings it will make me broke Nothing on order now, can't afford it, but am in the process of getting some beautiful scales made for one of the Damascus Mules :D
I like to use all of my knives in some way with regularity, so I've been bleeding some off in order to try some new (for me) offerings ie, the Chokwe is a very nice sharp interesting blade, had to have it :D Got rid of the Poliwog to offset the cost :o The list of wants goes on forever. For me there has to be that tradeoff. I share your passion though :) It's a testament to the company that their products inspire this kind of passion.
Where else can you get ZDP for under $100?? It's fun taking pictures too :D

Yep. Got it bad. Any knife I buy... I plan on using to some degree. I'm not interested in collecting safe queens. I buy the ones I think I'll like (for some reason). Uniqueness is one of those reasons. But, I don't see them as "investments." Rather, I think of them as either utilitarian or "practical art." No doubt, the genius of Spyderco is the seemingly infinite variety of folding knives. Something for everyone... at a price and quality that simply cannot be beat. And, you can't have just one!
When I think about it... Spyderco is truly brilliant. They have created a series of quality, yet affordable, products that perpetually generate their own buzz... add a splash of internet... and you've got marketing genius. And, I fell for it! :)
OK... I'm up to 12 spydies now. And, I've got 7 at various stages of being "on the way." Some are actually on the way. And, some are pre-order status. I think if I added up what I've spent, I'd break into a cold sweat! :eek: What the **** have I gotten myself into??? This is crazy. I got my first Spyderco last May. So, all this has happened in the span of 7 months.
I really like both Sages. And, they go well with my weekday business attire.
Today, I'm carrying my all-black Manix 2 for the first time. It's the weekend, so jeans and t-shirts. I like the way the Manix 2 feels in my hand. Very robust.
I'm having way too much fun with all this. But, now my 9 year old son is begging me for a knife. I'm thinking about the Swiss Army "My First Victorinox." It's got a rounded off primary blade. Is there a youth-oriented Spyderco?

Earlier this week, I got my first Kopa (carbon fiber). Very nice.
On Monday, I should be receiving a Balance and my first Millie in Digi-cam scales with black blade.
Still waiting (maybe forever?) for some others (three different Para 2s, and two Manixes). Thinking about a Ti Millie but haven't pulled the trigger.
Just ordered my first "mule" - MT10P - today.
Last May, I had zero knives. By Monday, I'll be up to 17!

Balance and Millie came today! As has been said many a time.... Wow, the Balance is TINY. But, it's very cool. The digi-cam Millie is a beast. The digi-cam isn't exactly what I expected. The digi-cam pattern is sort of underneath a translucent G-10 material. It's inside the G-10 rather than on the surface. Don't know if that made sense. But, that's how it looks. Still a very nice knife.

I think you will come to really appreciate the Balance. I've been pondering this recent phenomenon, which it is... for me. I've never been a collector of ANYTHING. I buy things because I like them. And, that is also true of Spyderco knives. I buy them because I like them and plan to carry them. But, since May, I've bought 23 Spydies. And, I've got several on pre-order. That's about 1 a week! This is not typical behavior for me. And, it really speaks strongly about the genius of Spyderco and the quality and VALUE of their products. Pepper some exclusivity with the occasional sprint or limited run, and you've got marketing magic.
Out of curiosity, I've looked at other "quality" knives from other popular companies. They just don't do ANYTHING for me. Zilch!
Spyderco is different. They are beautiful in that they are FUNCTIONAL. They are ergonomic. They just do the job and do it well. Perhaps that's why I'm also a Glock fan. I'm drawn to a "form follows function" design. I also like simplicity. Kudos to Spyderco for not only creating a quality product but what really amounts to a CULTURE and community of fans.
It sort of reminds me of Jimmy Buffet. His product isn't so much his singing. He's actually NOT a good singer. He's a STORY-TELLER and he has created an entire culture and "alter-ego lifestyle" for his fans. (BTW, I'm not a parrot-head.)
When I peruse the online knife forums, I see Spyderco has done the same thing. And, **** if I didn't get caught up in it! :)
