baby grail

Post by sharpguitarist »

hey folks,
i just received one of my grails today.
it was over ten years ago that i first saw and handled one of these little beauties.
i used to frequent a small flea market shop that had knives and swords, martial arts equipment, and oriental trinkets.
i kind of befreinded the oriental lady that owened the shop, and she gave me good deals on knives that i liked.
she had one of these and tried to talk me into buying it many times, but due to my lack of funds, i just never commited.
at a point when i decided to puchase, as usual, i went and found out that the flea market had closed it's doors.
luckily, the lady moved her shop into a strip mall, but in visiting with her, i discovered that "my" knife had been sold.
i still frequent her shop, and always hope the the knife will magically be there.
well, that fantasy never materialized.
while shearching the online knive sites for deals and bargains, lo and behold, what did i find?
"my" knife, and at a decent price.
so after years and years, one of my grails has been aquired!
baby goddard with burgandy micarta.

it's a great little gem, just as nice as i remember.
fit and finish is great, slim and sturdy as any spydie should be!
i know i've rambled on, but i just wanted to share! :D
thanks for looking!
later,
don

hey evil d,
actually, i play six string.
got a bass, but i just fiddle with that one.
been playing guitar for @ 33 years.
the micarta on this knife has a very deep look to it, with lots of the linen weave visible. i guess because its so polished.

don

hey d,
yea, i like my picks on the heavy side, with a sharp point.
i don't like my picks to give any when doing arpeggios and sweep picking. and i like the attack that a firmer pick produces. also, i think thin picks make for too much pick noise while playing.

Congrats mate. My grail was stolen from me X.X [sort of literally i guess] I was on ebay for the 25th delica, was up over 60 bucks the price at that time, at the 2 min mark, my phone rang, went to grab it [was a little important], and someone sniped me, I would have bid more too [ended at 357, I had it at 355 or something]. Blah.

Congrats on your grail.
Baby Goddard still on my may be list. As much as I love this design, I do not like CE. Almost pulled the trigger last week so.

do yourself a favor and spend a few more bucks to get the white micarta version. I'm not big on CE either, but it doesn't detract with this one.

Hey, Don! I bought the entire Goddard line back in '93 or so - when the first came out (Daddy C16, Junior C18, and Baby C20). It was the baby that sold me on the design. It takes "gentleman's" pocket knives to a whole new level. There is something about the lightness and smoothness of the micarta which make it perfect for formal carry.

The original version was almost identical to the current version - except for the color of the micarta. The original was a deep green, the new one obviously is burgundy.

Unfortunately, with pocket knives that small - they tend to get lost or misplaced in daily use. I think I accidentally left mine in a suit pocket which went to the cleaners. Never recovered it. I was absolutely *stoked* when Sal announced that they were producing it again in burgundy.

I've since acquired a white micarta Junior - and it is a real looker.

Cheers!

Nice score. I love Micarta handles.

Watch now that you have the knife when you go back to that store she will have the knife again. That would be my luck.

i hate when knives arrive and they are NOT what you expect size wise. like a balance.

or when you think it looks huge and then you get it home and its pretty small. case in point, my first khukuri. it looked huge but is pretty small in hand...
