anyone else have problems with the screws on their ZDP lum chineese ?

I recently noticed that the screws on my zdp chinese folder had come loose, so I tried tightening them but they just spun around as if the threads had stripped.

I took out the screws and put them in from the opposite side to make sure everything was kosher, and sure enough nothing is stripped.

I've even tried squeezing together the scales/back spacer with a clamp while I installed the screws and nothing, they still spin freely.

I've seen stuff about bulging/warped scales on the early chinese folders, but these seem nice and true.

Anyone else have this problem?

Bringing this one back from the grave to see if anyone else has since encountered this problem. Will be shipping mine to spyderco tomorrow, and have already scored a replacement...but still curious if anyone else has had this problem.

Just took mine out to check, bought it a couple of years ago new and carried it exclusively for about 6 months. I didn't experience this problem.

Glad you got a new one, but I hope Spyderco can see what gone awry with yours.

I checked mine as well and did not notice any problems. I remember reading a thread or two here on the forum about a Lum Chinese whose scale had warped and was unable to be screwed back together, but for the life of me I can't find that thread.

The two small screws near the back can be easily stripped. The only need to be snug. I have read about stripped screws on the Lum before and recently had done several blade swaps. When putting the knife back together, the small screws are turned until they stop and then an ever so slight snug (and I do mean slight!). Anything more will cause the screw to strip the threads. I've taken other brand new Lums I have in my collection and backed off the tiny screws to see how much tension there is and it's very little. Doesn't take much effort at to easily strip them.

The threads aren't stripped, as I can screw them in from the backside no problem. I just cannot get it to stay together when I put them in right side in. And as stated, I NEVER disassembled this knife or even tightened down the screws, it just happened out of the blue.

Let's see what spyderco says.
