3 more, the gang's all here

The binge is over with 3 more FRN Spyderco's:

Stretch - ZDP189 This one is the stealie blue discontinued color. I liked this size a little better than the Endura.

Delica 4- VG-10, FFG, blue. A very nice knife.

Delica 4- ZDP-189, BRG (gray/green). I would have liked to have seen black Torx screws instead of silver.

The Spyder hole seems to be a little sharp and I want to de-burr and
polish the inside top edge. Anyone done this?

Also bought 4 Benchmades so they can all be friends.

I like my holes sharp. I have read of peeps taking a marble wraped in sandpaper and using that.

I actually rounded off one of my earlier Spyides thinking that it was too sharp. Well, I was pleased when I got done and I tried to open the knife. My thumb slid right out and I could not open it. So I had to grind the hole bigger and re-establish the sharp edge. I do take my find rods to the edge on some of the extremely sharp ones, maybe 5 to 10 light strokes max.

I've got that in my pocket right now. It's pretty awesome, and has the sharpest edge I've ever gotten from the factory ever. Whittled hair right out of the box.

Sounds like you picked up some nice hardware there. Unfortunately, Spyderco makes other nice items that you may later decide MUST be part of the gang. Enjoy :D

i got mine last week, was like you said the sharpest factory edge ive gotten also. as far as dulling the hole though, i think i prefer mine with a good edge though cant see the harm in a very slight bevel on it.

What did you use to resharpen the hole? I have a couple that would benefit greatly from this. I hate smooth holes.

- best wishes, Jazz.

Well... The regional Gun & Knife show is in town, soooooo 2 more followed me home.

1. Native- CPM S30v. Bought it just for the fun of it. You can really choke down on this blade.

2. Para Military- CPM S30v, G10, Digi Camo. Excellent handle to blade ratio.

Have either one of you sharpened the blue Stretch yet? Mine came with a two bevel edge on it. I had just gotten a Michael Walker and was having trouble keeping it sharp. Several people were and it was discussed on this forum a couple of months ago. When I got the Stretch I paid close inspection to the edge out of the box. It was very scratchy with one bevel at whatever angle it was and a small bevel at a higher angle right on the edge. Both bevels were scratchy with a toothy edge that was very very sharp. I use three ways to test sharpness; shave arm, slice paper and do a little whittling on soft and hard wood.

I was wondering about the double bevel edge on your knives. I was wondering if all knives of the same type are sharpened the same. Is it done by a person on an assembly line, by a machine on an assembly line, or what? It doesn't really matter to me but I'm just curious enough to ask. I would like to know. I can get my ZDP-189 blades as sharp as I want now but not at the very low angles some have claimed. I put a bevel of between 10 and 13 degrees per side then put a very small (not micro really) bevel for the actual edge of maybe 18 degrees per side. Then to resharpen I'll hit the edge 18 degrees once or twice then with an angle of 18.5 degree, then 19, then 19.5, etc. on subsequent sharpenings. These are estimates. The increase may not even be .5 degrees. I probably just don't have the patience to sharpen the first 12 degree bevel until I get the edge I want. By using the 18 degree angle I'm hitting such a small amount of steel it gets the razor edge back again very quickly. Creating the original 12 degree bevel takes time and I don't ever seem to get a very sharp edge. I have to use the 18 degree or close to get the edge I want. ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE! Several people have indicated they get the edge with only one 10 degree per side angle or even lower. I apologize for changing the subject to sharpening. That wasn't my intention but I really don't want to start a thread for it since it was hit so much a couple of months ago.

Glad you got a blue Stretch while they are available. I can't believe they will cancel the knife model with zdp blade. It is definately a model I think they should have two models of. One with ZDP-189 and one with VG-10 (or some other steel). Maybe it will only be the blue part that will be cancelled so they can make only one color handle to save $. ???

It was either take a nap this afternoon or go back and check out the gun & knife show before they close. It would also give me a chance to establish a modicum of self control.

I came home with a Caly 3, VG-10, G-10.

What can I say. He made me a good deal.

Well, you had your chance. :) You didn't really think self control was going to win out did you? I've used self control before and NEVER been as happy as when I don't use it. We have to use it sometimes though. :(
