Halpern Titanium Limited Edition Grips for the Spyderco Mule Team - Mule Projects!

So, I am proud to say that for the first time, I will get my review in, on time!

Halpern Titanium, the sole production handle manufacturer for the Spyderco Mule team knives, is back at it, with their new Limited Edition handles. Showcasing their skill with CNC programming, and their experience as an OEM manufacturer for some of the biggest names in cutlery and firearms accessories. The new Limited Edition scales are beveled, contoured, and have a nice checkering pattern over the sides. Awesome.

I have been playing with them quite a bit, and so I had already oiled a couple of the handles up.

But, I thought it would be nice to show the texture of the grips, before they were oiled...

And, here, you can see up close, the patterns made in grips, revealing the layers of material...

Image

An image, showing the depth given to the scale, with the contouring and checkering, even in the same color, Coyote. As well, this image also shows the similarity in the dimensions between the Option 3 and the LE.

Image

And the same, with Orange... Alternate to the previous image, this image shows the differences between the Option 1 and the LE.

Image

Some images showing the 4 colors of the Limited Edition... From the top, Orange, Coyote Brown, Earth Brown, and Black

An image showing a few sheaths I made, for my Mules...

Image

And, the image I always enjoy, showing all the different varieties, and demostrating all the colors... With my cord wrapped Mule thrown in, like a beefy arm, for good measure. From the top, Strider Cord Wrap, Pink, Orange, Coyote Brown, Ranger Green, Grey, Earth Brown, and Black...

more to come...

Finally, as the amount of tang emerging from the cover the scales seems to be the hot button topic, I took three photographs that I hope are illustrative of the fit of the new LE scales. Though, I fear that may only demonstrate the limits of my capabilities with a camera...

Focused on the Ranger Green scales mounted to my ZDP-189 Mule.

Focused on the the Pink scales mounted to a China Mule.

Focused on the new LE grips, in Earth Brown, mounted to a Chine Mule...

I just wanted to close with a few words of thanks. I first want to thank Sal and the crew at Spyderco, for doing what they do, which I would have no chance of describing completely in the time available, but they have made this very cool project come alive, and I am enjoying the heck out of it. Second I want to thank Halpern Titanium, for allowing me to review their grips, what a treat it has been. Third, I want to thank my sheath customers, it has been a pleasure helping you enjoy your Mules. And finally, I want to thank you, the reader, for being interested in my photo reviews, providing feedback, and giving me such a fun outlet for some of the ridiculous energy I have for knives.

THANK YOU!

Kind Regards,
Marion

Does Halpern provide mounting hardware too (bolts) with purchase of the scales?

Looks great but keeping the pics under 800 pixles wide would help me read the text without scrolling back and forth on each line.

Yeah, they will send the screws as well, they asked me if I needed them when I bought a set.

Thanks for the pics Marion.

Thank you Marion for the pics & review of the LE4 Halpern scales. I need a pair of those! Now if I could just decide on a color. I find myself leaning toward Orange, so I could find it better when I set it down, or Coyote for the low profile/visibility, and possibility of a RIT Overdye...

Canis steered you right, they do, though they charge for them.

I know, but I love my images so much, that I can't help but enable them, and I let them preen and strut. Seriously, I will consider what you say.

A pleasure.

Welcome! You do need a pair of these.

I really warmed to the Coyote, in this version. I found the Coyote to be a bit pail, in the Option 3, but in the LE, with the visual depth created by the contouring and checkering, I quite like them.

Those are gorgeous pics, and it's an excellent review. Perhaps I'm missing something but do you know a rough price point for these?

An excellent review with great pics! Nice work, as always.

Thank you for your hard work. (Is it okay to call such a fun hobby work?)

I ordered a few one month ago. The option 3 sets were $20 each and the Limited Edition $40 each. I received them in Japan just 5 days later, including the Labor Day holiday. Oh, yeah, the actual shipping cost was more than they billed me. They're a great company to do business with (as you'd expect from anyone endorsed by Sal).

Thank you sir!

I post my review all over, and in many places mentioning prices is considered at best gauche, at worst spam....

But, I probably won't be banned here.... $40 w/ hardware, plus shipping.

Nah, you are fine.

I was just explaining why I didn't put it into the review. It is perfectly fine for you to ask. On other forums, I would have answered it privately.

Thanks for posting!

Now that's a great photo of what I want to do to my first Mule, but have to wait another month for those black scales; seems that your article did such a great job, that they're out of black, but going to do another run in early Nov. I don't mind the wait for such a great looking set of scales, so thanks for the fantastic write-up. Is this a great site or what ? :D
