I'd really like to see the Delica (or other 3" folder) become another test bed for new steels, similar to the way the Military seems to be used currently. Unfortunately, I have no interest in purchasing a Military due to its size, so the Delica would be ideal for me. I wouldn't even mind if the old D3 frame were used for the project.

The maker would most likely require a Japanese steel. This would make possibilities limited. I think that a run of Delicas in a different steel is a good idea, but it should be something new and interesting, like when ZDP hit the market. And make it FFG. I guess it seems more likely we'd get a sprint than a Mule line of Delicas. Or better yet make it a Caly Jr.

I'd prefer the UKPK FRN Mule Team, to be honest. If Spyderco want to test steels in a folder platform then the SLIPITs provide a more widely acceptable format that allows more people to test them :)
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)

While I like the Delica, I voted no. I much prefer knives that have finger choils. UKPK would be an interesting choice. Even though I don't have any SLIPITs, I'd be willing to give them a try.

I think the upcoming, Golden-made Native 5 would be a great Mule platform.

Doubt it would fly. Even ignoring the added cost of sending US steels there, the Japanese consider it an insult to be asked to work with foreign steels and tend to go brain dead when forced to work with them.

No interest myself, even if it were feasible, since the Delica lacks a usable choil. The only steels I have a hankering to try are certain varieties of Damasteel, and even those only in a very few specific models out of which the Sage IV is the only one that would not be subject to the issue mentioned above. Aside from that, VG-10, S30V, 154CM, or even good old AUS-6 is fine by me.

It was just a fun post. Could have said Native just as easily or "folder".
The Delica just seems to be the most popular / affordable model. ;)
And as its was my post, it had to have a locking blade. LOL LOL

I'd go for that. The Delica is the "standard" model. I think steel testing on the standard model makes sense.

No harm in putting it up ... or knocking it down :D

We had the long-running Mule-Team UKPK thread a little while ago and I'd just prefer something like that because a lot of people can't now EDC a locker ... and to really test a steel I think it had to go into the EDC rotation and cut a lot of different materials :) So, as long as it was a SLIPIT then I'd love any Mule-Team because the one thing I lack over here is Spyderco knives with different steels ... because so far most of the novel steels (ZDP-189, S90V, D2, CTS-XHP etc.) have been released in lockers or fixed-blades that I just have very little need for.

Paul's idea of Damasteel would really make me reach for the credit-card, as long as it was used on a broad, leaf-blade which showed the pattern off well :)

I wonder how the poll would go if you said Millie or Para, it looks like the Para 2 is being turned into a Mule platform already.

Put your stretch over the mule. The mule and stretch have the same handle shape!

I noticed that similarity while making scales for a mule. Shape sure fits the grip well with flat scales, even better with a center swell and thinner at 1st and 4th fingers.
