Gayle Bradley - Moose Update

#1

Post by ed9957 »

After reading all of the positive reviews, I broke down and bought one. What a great knife! It has the most robust, secure and solid lock up of any Spyderco I own, and I have a few: Delica (4x), Endura, Salts, Military, Para (3x), Stretch, et al. Zero blade play, I will see if that changes after a bit of use.

It came fairly sharp out of the box, and a quick touch up with the extra fine Sharpmaker stones, put a hair popping edge on it. Very nice fit and finish and I would highly recommend it for the price.

Fits my large hands rather well. It will be getting a lot of carry time as my new EDC and I plan to use it for when I go hunting deer in the fall. Its my first CF handled Spydie, so I will see how well it grips the hand when it gets wet, etc. I may sell off some other little used Spydies and maybe pick up a 2nd GB.

Spectacular design. I think that it's the best production knife out there right now. With regards to heavy use; I too wonder if wet hands will grip on CF as well as G10. As a hunting knife what would you think of orange G10? -P

Awesome blade and congrats. If you don't know much about m4 you might read up. Should be an amazing hunt knife steel if properly cared after.

I mean no offense by this. Just want that blade to stay as shiny as you want it too :)

I just picked one up yesterday also and it was shaving sharp out of the box.
The fit and finish on this knife is pretty remarkable, and the thing ate up some cardboard and magazines.

I have recently gotten into more expensive "custom" folders in the $400 range and I'd put this one up against most of them.

Looking forward to giving the M4 steel a run for it's money.

I would definitely get one in Orange G10. I've use my Paramilitary with G10 cleaning large salmon at the river and was impressed by the grip with wet hands.

If you pick up the latest issue of Field and Stream, the Bradley is in there with about 4 other "high-performance" pocket knives in a feature on ideal pocket knives for outdoorsmen.

Finally had a chance to put the GB to use for dressing a mule deer we got hunting yesterday. It worked very well for the task at hand. The strong lock made it feel as secure as a fixed blade for cutting the sternum. The handle wasn't too slippery and the curve of the blade worked well for skinning. The knife stayed sharp and made cutting effortless. I'm very pleased with the knife. I also have a Stretch 2 but didn't use it. I know from force applied to the knife in cutting sternum, I wouldn't feel comfortable in using a Stretch for that task. We have a moose hunt coming up this week and hopefully I will have another chance to use the GB.

Thanks for sharing ed... The GB is my favorite HD spydie. I also really like the Stretch 2- design/ergos. Together they are the best :spyder: for me.

The GB is the flagship of my folders. Great quality, great materials, extremely good value and very useful :D

Had the GB been discontinued or is just temporarily out of stock?

Definitely have my eye on the Gayle Bradley...the thickness of the lock, lack of a indent to release the liner, and the cpm M4 steel (which I am anxious to try) seem like they would make an amazingly strong knife. It looks like a beautiful gentalman's folder, but seems capable of so much more! Plus I love the Taiwan build quality and CF texture. The price is right as well. I'll have to pick one up eventually (hopefully its still around), although there are certainly several others on my list ahead of it

Gayle Bradley - Moose Update

We returned from a successful moose hunt, harvesting two moose between our group of 4 hunters. The GB worked very well for cleaning/skinning the moose. No issue with a slippery handle despite being covered in blood. The secure lock is very nice and gives confidence when making full power cuts ( ie through rib attachments, etc). My uncle also used the knife and had no complaints. I used the Spyderco Doublestuff stone to touch up the edge. I also used my Stretch 2 briefly, but I preferred the GB. The GB works very well for skinning. I feel the GB is a very good hunting knife. The only small issue is under hard use, the lock can be difficult to disengage. I have noticed this before when using it for other tasks when making full power cuts, however I don't consider this a big deal and would rather have a secure lock up. The blade pivot did get sticky from all the blood, a quick wash in hot water and a bit of olive oil to lube the pivot and everything was back to normal. Blade lockup is solid and locks in place with authoritative click. I have a spare GB put away in case anything should happen to this one...

Great Knife!!!http://spyderco.com/forums/images/icons ... icon14.gif
