And what about the possibility of replacing the interface in case it wears out due to excessive use?
About the lockbar face costs - it was just my guess.
However, the possibility of replacing the interface would be a 'dreams come true'.

I an sorry, no offense intended. My feeling was (and is) that it would not be correct at all to call the HT of Titanium lock a 'short time solution'.

I edited my comment to make more clear and (I hope) polite.

Thanx JNewell for your comment.

Any updates or random guesses on when this is going to be released? Taz...
Roger said he thinks it will be early October, maybe.
I know they are making it perfect for us and some changes were made, including the SS insert to the lock bar,,but I was just curious...well what i mean to say is  Can't Wait

I bought a few Titanium Militaries to sell (I'm a part time dealer), they arrived more or less at the same time as the announcement of the new version was made. Now my customers aren't interested in them and prefer to wait for the new ones.

Give Roger a call? (This thread is actually about the 2nd Gen production model, not the KW LE, though.)

If I'm reading Kristi's initial post correctly, it was really about both, since the KW exclusive is scheduled to be the first knife to incorporate the change...
TazKristi wrote:Spyderco’s Titanium Military Model is out and smoking hot. Spyderco goes a bit further in insuring our knives are long-lasting and durable. Titanium being a soft alloy presents a challenge when making hard, strong locks because it’s soft and eventually wears. Our titanium model knives with R.I.L locking mechanisms will soon feature a new small stainless steel insert attached to the lock’s liner. The fingernail-sized addition is machined, then nested, into the titanium on both ends then held in place by three locating posts and two screws. Stainless steel being harder than titanium extends the lock’s life span by augmenting the lock-tang interface for extended smooth action and longer lock-life.

The new R.I.L. insert will be previewed on the much anticipated Knifeworks Exclusive, the CPM-M4 Military Model with a G-10 front scale and titanium rear scale R.I.L. The new R.I.L. insert will be a rolling change used on future Spyderco Ti-Mil Models in late 2010 and early 2011.

Chris Reeve puts a piece of ceramic on the end of his locking bars, I do believe, for as long as they've been around. At least, I have a bg42 and a newer one, and they both have something in there.

No, the ceramic ball was introduced only a couple of years ago with the Umnumzaan. There are other manufacturers that have used a steel face on the lockbar, but it's relatively uncommon. There's a big thread at another forum on this change.

I'm not talking about the ceramic ball. I'm talking about the triagular piece of ceramic at the end of the lock bar which is what truly engages the blade. It is plenty visable if you have a Sebby.

I don't know if it's always been there, but like I said, I have an older one in bg42, and it's there. I have a newer one, and it's there too.

MCM just looked at his and could see it too.

Do you have a Sebby? I'll call CR in the morning just to make sure it's ceramic and when they started putting them on.

I have several. It's not ceramic. IIRC, it's the coloring caused by CRK heat-treating the lockbar face.
