Knife beta testers?

#1

Post by dialex »

Hi all,

It is well known that some companies that are to launch new products, first send them to some people for generally testing.

Those guys are the "beta testers" and the products, of course, are usually "beta versions".

Now I wonder if there are any beta testers for knives, especially for knives.

I know I'd gladly volunteer

How about you?

I volunteered a while back and still nothing to play with... I'd love to use a proto and give my opinion, possibly even keeping the proto afterwards, but nothing yet.

That would be sweet. I don't abuse knives, but if you want an honest opinion of a knife as it is carried by an ELU, call me!

That would be great. I would definately volunteer to beta test a . Does Spyderco do anything like that?

Usually the beta testers don't get paid (or get very little money), but they can keep the models they test instead.
I think it's more a question of pride to be elected as beta tester.

OK - truthfully, how many of us would PAY to be a Spyderco beta tester, even if we had to give the knives back

****, I'd buy the model I test, just to get to help in the design process...

Hi Dialex. It really is a great concept, but very difficult in reality to implement.

We've tried in the past to set up a "test bed" of both ELUs and dealers. I'm sure we'll be trying again in the future.

The demographics of location, extent of expertise of the tester, short run of tester pieces, costs, etc. make it a far more difficult process than it might appear.

And I remember you said in a previous post about some really destructive tests performed in the R&D labs. I was thinking at beta testers more for marketing reasons, you know, how does it feel, how they like the overall product aso. I mean, there may be a very good knife yet it won't sell, just as it happened to the C05 Standard - one of my favorites, BTW. And of course, there's always a small detail to be noticed
