second run CTS-XHP Manix 2 came dull.

I've never had a spyderco that was dull out of the box. i can't even cut paper with it. it looks like it was sharpened and then the ground down a bit. I'll put it on the sharpmaker when i get home from work and get a good edge on it but this was just unusual.

Where did you buy it from? It does seem unusual. :(

You could contact W&R or the place you bought it from prior to sharpening it. I would think they would amend the situation promptly.

I got it from Knife Center. I'm out of luck if they are out of stock so i think i'll try sharpening it before i go the customer service route.

Your call. Just remember an altered product often impacts it's return policy. Unless you buy your knives at Nordstrom that is. ;)

I just got off the phone with their customer service. Because of the limited availability of it they can't promise me a replacement but they did offer a refund. they did say if i try to sharpen it myself i can't return it.

However i am taking a trip to denver next week. I may leave it as is and take it in to the SFO.

A close-up picture of the edge would really help.

Humm, I wonder if you can get it sharpened at SFO?
Thanks,

Sorry about that Freedoom. It is quite unusual. I'm sure they will take good care of you at SFO.

It would be REALLY cool if they would let you watch them fix it for you, but that's a long shot. Looking forward to those pictures!

Thanks for the response Sal

High res pics of the edge, some of them came out really well.

here's the full gallery of high res pics http://s156.photobucket.com/albums/t28/ ... ix%20edge/

this one really shows how the edge was messed up, you can see how it's cutting edge was ground flat.

OW! That looks nasty.

I was going to recommend that you sharpen it up yourself, but after seeing that the SFO seems like the best route.

That stuff is not easy to grind, especially by hand. They'll resharpen it for you.

It does seem unusual, but not too unusual. I have had [between my brother and myself] a few spydercos that won't cut paper. Sage 2 [which surprised me a whole lot and my brother who bought it since its a [to us anyway] costly knife], a ladybug, and a spyderco pacific salt. The pacific salt was the worst by far, almost as close to yours, it seemed dull and i could put it on my finger and put pressure on it without being scared of getting cut. Luckily and unluckily - it was ALSO off center, so the black coating was rubbing off on the handle, so it was covered under warranty. But its been at spyderco for 1 month now.... so i don't know what else to say about that [is that normal for them to take this long? sorry to thread jack on this last part]. As everyone else said, I think your best bet is to take it to SFO and have it resharpened there, since knife center doesn't seem to be able to help and you will be in around SFO anyway. Think of it as a reason to buy another spydie while your there haha.

Good photo! Sounds like Spyderco is going to take care of you. A dull factory Spydie is definitely rare.

That's a dull edge alright. Maybe it was meant for the NYC market...
