Since we can legally carry knives over 4 inches here and I can carry up to a machete since I am a farmer, there's nothing that I can do with a 2 inch blade that I can't do with a larger blade.

I love Little Big Knives, but this one for that much money? I think it will be great for opening boxes due to negative blade angle, but for more regular uses? I dont even have anything in front of it. I need to see overall utility and reviews before buying this one. Of course, I will probably buy it just to have one since they will get all gobbled up...

Just like there's a market for large tactical folders, and fixed blades optimized for "sentry de-animation", there are folks who like something small and refined looking.npueppke wrote:What is the point of that? Just to live up to its namesake? I think it is one goofy looking blade myself.

I think this would be a really excellent knife to take to work for tasks that don't require a whole lot of blade length, and a cool/unique gentleman's folder. At this price point I have a few similarly priced larger models that I would see more likely in an EDC role for me outside of work (and as my current place of employ frowns on knives altogether I tend to go with simpler, even smaller and clipless at present), so unless my financial situation puts me in a spot to be able to buy every knife I like whenever they come out, I probably won't be able to move on this one until the SS model comes out (am hopeful that this will be closer to a $50 street price at that point, which is probably low enough that I will be able to do it). Still, I think it's a cool design that looks like it would be very comfortable and ergonomic for things like opening boxes, cutting light string/line, opening letters, etc.

I handled this at the factory outlet, and if it weren't $160, i would have bought it on the spot! Though the CF really looks cool, it does make it heavier (in cost that is). i can't wait for the SS version to come out, and am really wishing there's a FRN or G10 version (which would weigh next to nothing at the most) in the works.
I totally agree! I am hoping the SS version won't be more than $50, but we'll have to see...defenestrate wrote:...I probably won't be able to move on this one until the SS model comes out (am hopeful that this will be closer to a $50 street price at that point, which is probably low enough that I will be able to do it).

Why do you think a G-10 version would weigh less? That has not been the case for any other model that came in both G-10 and CF, unless there were other differences as well, like unlined G-10 vs single liner CF. Cost less, yes. Weigh less, no.ClusterFlux wrote:I handled this at the factory outlet, and if it weren't $160, i would have bought it on the spot! In fact, all else being equal, CF weighs marginally less. Granted, on a knife the size of the balance it might not even register, but the CF/S90V Military weighs 5 grams less than the G-10/S30V version.

I like it well enough, although it is too expensive. It doesn't really offer anything to me over the cricket which I have and love. For $60-70 street I'd pick one up.
Also, don't you have to wonder about a knife where the primary design criterion is how it looks closed? It seems that how it looks/works open would be more important.

Sorry i was primarily thinking of FRN, and i must admit my ignorance of G10. I don't own any knives in G10 but i have handled them quite a bit. Without a side-by side comparison and a look at the exact specs it's hard to compare accurately. The Deacon wrote:Why do you think a G-10 version would weigh less? Its one of Ed's designs so I am sure it works just fine.jldc wrote: Also, don't you have to wonder about a knife where the primary design criterion is how it looks closed? It seems that how it looks/works open would be more important.

So many knives, so few pockets... :)

You're assuming the design criteria for the Cricket were different. I'm inlcined to think that ts appeal, and the Poliwog's as well, are at least partially the result of symmetry when closed. And, to expand a bit on what Araneae noted, you're discounting the fact that both Ed Schempp and Spyderco don't design "just for looks".jldc wrote:I like it well enough, although it is too expensive. If it didn't perform in the hand Ed wouldn't have designed it. The symmetry when closed is cool as **** but I'm sure not the only credential :p .
Deep choil, leaf blade, flat grind, tons of negative blade angle. Besides price I'm surprised all the complaining; on paper it's a supercharged Lava with a pointed tip.
Bring on the SS!

Have to wonder how an even more "upscale" version would fare. My thinking is that at least some of the folks who are attracted to this design are looking for "functional jewelry". A bolstered version would capitalize on that.Blerv wrote:If it didn't perform in the hand Ed wouldn't have designed it.
