How tough are the aqua salts?

#1

Post by Bluefish »

Hi, noticed they were discontinued and thought about grabbing one. I know they have a rat tail tang and wondered how hard people are using them?
Will they take batoning? Anyone have the handle let go on them?
I have an H1 and like the steel but prefer a full tang as a rule.
Also, anyone know why they are being discoed?
Any info would be great. Thanks, Russ

Excellent fixed blade for under $65 bucks. I cut through a beef bone with it when I was prepping some pulled beef in the kitchen. It handled it really well. I agree with the full tang, but at that price it was hard to pass up especially with the H1. Seemed like a win win for me.

It is one of the few blades that I decided to keep for myself. We had about 6 come through and I kept 1 for myself. If your debating it, that means you already kind of want it, you might as well get it now before it is harder to find them later on.

the aqua salt doesn't have any problem handling batoning and extra hard use. however, if you're looking for a fixed blade for lots of batoning, you'll do much better with the rock salt.

It might be able to baton, but the Aqua Salt isn't the knife I would choose for the job. The Temp2 would be a better choice for all around outdoor use.

I bought the Aqua for it's super sharp H1 serrations and it's corrosion resistance. This knife will cut :D

Prefer a full tang of steel for really tough constant use.

Geussing they're being discontinued because they're not selling as well as some other models are or might sell. I picked up my 2 Hossoms at a really good price when that happened to them.

aqua salt is a great knife, just doesn't have the same sort of heft and grind that makes the rock salt so great at batoning.

right now, my PE aqua salt is my number one boat knife. i can't tell you how much bait that thing has cut. :D

I, too, love H1. (I love that idea of an H1 Centofante, clovisc.) :D

I'm not seeing the disco'd info on the website, though. Any help appreciated.
