The question to stun generations... [Tasman salt serrated or not]
I've been hearing all these amazing things about the Tasman salt and H1 so I decided Im going to get one however, should I get it in Plain edge or Serrated? I read somewhere that the serrated has a high hardness... IS that BS? Thanks. :]
You might find that. I don't have long term experience with serrated knives in H-1. I did find that as I used and sharpened a plain edged knife that H-1's edge retention increased over time.
And for edge configuration, you have to ask yourself what cutting tasks this knife will be used to accomplish. If you touch it up every day, a serrated edge will perform well for every day cutting chores also. When a serrated edge is allowed to dull it will still cut, albeit less cleanly.

How often would I have to sharpen the PE if I use it on zip ties and cardboard and possibly plant lightly once a day lol.Blerv wrote:It's not BS because H1 work hardens when they grind it.
If you have the sharpening equip and don't mind touch-ups the PE is a fine choice. The SE will cut more agressive and hold an edge MUCH longer (at least twice if not more) plus when dull it will still rip/saw instead of slipping.

Okay hahahah. ****... I really like the look of PE hawkbills... Maybe I wont eat for a couple of days and get both :D .thefly01 wrote:If I were using this to cut zip ties i'd only be looking at the serrated. Just my cent and a half.
Also kind of a dumb question, do you think that FRN can break glass IE windows?
Don't get me wrong, I have a hard time dulling AUS8 from Spyderco :) . Cardboard is very abrasive and zip ties are very slick for a semi-sharp knife. If that's the bulk of your duties SE all the way.
PE is great and makes much cleaner cuts. It's just a bit less rugged for certain chores when the goal is making one thing into two pieces as a fellow forum member has said in the past.

You're going to a very hard time breaking glass with FRN especially with a handle shape like the Tasman's where there is a lot of surface area. You want a very hard pointed object (i.e. a glass breaker :P ) to break glass. If you're talking about doing it underwater, forget about it.FissionMailed wrote:Okay hahahah. ****... if you need to glass window, add assist to your list. It has a carbide tip for that.FissionMailed wrote:

Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

I will almost always take PE over SE but, if I were carrying a hawkbill, I would carry a serrated one. The two things go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Plain edge.
Why?
Because the Hawkbill is the serration.
