The Para-Military2 Clip

#1

Post by MLR »

I agree with some of the posters that the new clip for the PM2 looks a bit out of place on the knife. Too "sports car", less "jeep". Also, its apparent that the shape of the clip was designed to have a lanyard hole like the delica--so it looks a bit silly without one. Spyderco makes a similar clip that overall looks like it would be better suited to the PM2--e.g., the citadel or embassy have this style clip. does anyone know if these clips will fit the hole pattern found on the PM2?

If it is the same "hourglass" shape, yes they will be interchangeable.

If the Citadel/Embassy clip is the one pictured here, then it's the older "standard" 3 screw clip and will not fit the ParaMilitary, or any of the various other knives which share the now standard "Delica 4" style 3 screw clip (Endura 4, Manix 2, Stretch 2, to name a few).

Also note that most of these "delica 4 style" clips have a lanyard hole drilled in the clip. The PM 2 does not need this hole, nor does the stock clip have it. The layard hole will not hurt the function though.

It is true that either style D4 clip will work on the PM2. However, the clip is stronger without the lanyard hole. For that reason if, on a given model, the hole serves no useful purpose (lanyard hole access, over the pivot screw mounting, or both) then the version without it does have an benefit.

Isn't the clip, the exact one on the Manix 2?

I have a PM2 on the way, and I intend to carry and use it. I prefer non-shiny clips on EDC knives, so I'm considering trying to create a matte finish on it myself somehow. But, I'm waiting to see it in person before deciding if it's necessary.

I like the clip on the Para 2. I prefer unpainted clips because there isn't anything to chip or wear off. Besides, the hourglass clip style is one of the best Spyderco makes.

I wanted a slightly deeper carry on my para1 so tapped some new holes and put this one on. It will not fit into the factory clip holes on the para2.
As soon as my para2 arrives I will be tapping some new holes and put this same clip on it.
I love the black plated clips and as they wear they look cool IMO.

I wonder if it would be posible to blue the clip with a gun bluing kit. I just read on wiki that SS could be Blued.
I would like to try a Hot bluing kit.

As far as tapping new holes, I would think the new pattern would be to close to the existing holes, and the bit would want to walk.
