Why is the Caly 3 so expensive in Holland??

#1

Post by Cool Breeze »

Hi everyone,

I'm drooling over the caly3 at the moment and I really want one. Only thing is that the beauty costs me at least € 200,- (about 350 US).

Does anyone know how or where I can find one for less money in Holland? or at least get it here a bit cheaper..

I'd like the G-10 version over the CF but i guess i can't be complaining if i can get one for something less than € 200,- :D

Average price for the CF Caly 3 from US internet dealers is a bit under $130. Actual shipping cost by USPS Express Mail $29, which adds up to about 130€. No idea what customs at your end will charge you. Also realize some US dealers charge obscene amounts to ship overseas but others, like Cutlery Shoppe, seem pretty decent.

It does seem to be a fact that when Spydies get this side of the Atlantic the price goes through the roof. Even allowing for shipping and taxes/duty it is often much cheaper to buy from US traders. Perhaps this is something that the Spydie-folks can look into when they manage their distributor network.

It's a particular pity in the UK because personal imports are often being confiscated, while business imports are allowed through - meaning that buyers either have to pay more, or take a risk or ask the trader to do silly things like over-tightening pivots or sending the blade separately.
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)

The reason is that European dealers use MSRP as their selling price and just use the MSRP in € instead of $.
All my knives are bought from the internet. It's impossible for me financially to buy it from local dealers.
Most also need to order the knife because they don't have any in stock. I asked my local gunshop how much a Warrior would cost and he said that it would take 6 weeks and the priece would be 399€ or 489 $!
I said no thank you......

We here also have to pay MSRP plus 20 percent. I self imported most of the few knives I have and even paying US$30 for shipping I'm am still paying about 40 percent less than the local price. Worth the trouble to me. For the less expensive knives is probably not worth the trouble. But for knives with an MSRP of $100 above, it quite satisfying paying just about half of what I'd need to pay the dealers here.

Buy it online, save yourself some money :p
Luckely in we don't have to much trouble with taxes on packages :p

i've heard the netherlands are terrible for their taxes but even with the taxes it's going to be cheaper bought online ;)

90% of my knives are bought in america online
I've paid 99€ for a white endura, could have bought it online for 45€(+shipping ;) )

Ahhh its good to be born in the US of A :D

Hope you can find a more reasonable deal out there somewhere. Maybe you can find someone trustworthy to buy it for you in the States and have them ship it out to you.

Well, beeing a Dutchy also has it advantages, but when it comes to buying specific quality stuff like knives, EDC stuff and cars, it would be nice to have lived on the other side of the pond.

But thank god it's 2010 and we have the internet. World is getting smaller as we speak. If only customs and taxes didn't exist it would be a perfect world ;)

There you go £120 or 146euros. It's the g10 handle too and they ship to you.

I have nothing to do with the shop. I am a satisfied customer of theirs.

These 151,90 EUR are the end price, since they don't charge shipping costs above 25€ to Holland, Germany and a couple other european countries.

Heinnie's charge 4,50 BP which is ca. 5,50 EUR shipping, so you end up around the same price as Wolfster.

I've bought a couple of knives from them. They are reliable and fast.

Yeah that, or an importing company that's not so greedy.
Adola still have the original Chinese folders for sale.
Because the price is way to high.
