Tick versus Spyder(co)

#1

Post by henk1966 »

Today I had to use a spyderco pacific salt to get rid of.....a tick

Don,t ask how,but the little create managed to bite in my right upperleg, had to get it out and where I was at that moment was no hospital, and yes I HATE TICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So with help of this other yellow creature I managed to get it out,now I have to wait for 7-10 days to see if this was a good or bad tick, some have bacteria that can make us humans sick  ,that,s why I had to get it out of my leg soon. :D

So,thanks Spyder(co)!!

Theres a good way to remove ticks, if you have small pliers or even if it is big enough to grab with your nails, turn it COUNTER-CLOCK WISE!. Well have done this several times and still alive no Lyme disease or hepatitis b has gotten me yet. :D

Yes, Lyme's disease is not something you want - a friend of mine is just getting over it 1 year after she was diagnosed and it has left her with a lot of fatigue still. Also, get your blood tested because often people do not develop the rash/spots that people talk about with Lyme's disease - some of the less well known symptoms are fatigue, feeling a bit like you have flu & aching shoulders and/or thumbs.

When removing ticks always remember to lift them out by the mouth first - never squash them or burn them because then they will spit the contents of their stomach into your blood and if they have Lyme's disease then you will surely get it. A tick remover tool is the best way - or a pair of long-nose forceps - or a Spyderco knife, as henk has testified, though I'm not sure how the heck he managed it! ;) Perhaps henk can one day demonstrate how exactly to use a Spyderco against ticks? :p

Ouch! Yeah that's another problem - if you leave the mouth behind in the wound then you can get an infection ... best to get a lot of alcohol/iodine on it to make sure it is disinfected after all the tick teeth have been removed ;)

Even though it's to promote their product, there's a great deal of info here on the subject, and the risks:

Depending on where you live, certain ticks can cause lyme disease. It takes about 48 hours for the bacteria that causes lyme disease to migrate from the gut of the tick into a person, so if you remove it within this time frame, your chance of getting lyme disease is almost non-existent. If you remove the tick after that time frame, you can see a doctor and they can prescribe a one time dose of an antibiotic to prevent the development of lyme disease.

Why counterclockwise? Ticks creep me out.

Did you see a doctor yet? Not sure that ring always shows up, the faster you get antibac, the better.

my fam owns a vineyard in colts neck. SURROUNDED BY WOODS. owned it for like less than 6 months before all 5 of them, not youngest cuz though, had been bitten. they all are cool. (a goat they had died though) live happy healthy lives. they get checked out on the norm. take meds. get blood test. its not the end of the world. i use to think it was. like you will die or have complications and have to constantly be on guard and fight infection and be healthy etc. etc. but like i said they have been like that for like 3 years. all alive still :p its very manageable
