Tens years of collecting spyders...

I haven't posted here quite as often as I used to, but today I thought I'd make a post just to express my thoughts today after purchasing a Delica.

I've been collecting Spyderco knives for 10 years now, and I've owned uncountably many models. Today I went into a local camping/hiking store here in PA, and decided to go over to the knife counter. The only Spyderco in the case was an ATS-55 Delica, 3rd generation in plain-edge. I've owned 3rd generation delica's in the past and I've given all of those models away over the years. Therefore, I decided it'd be nice to add a 3rd gen Delica back into the family.

I must say, the hollow-ground Delica in ATS-55 is hands down my favorite variation of the Delica (I own several of the gen1 models, a Delica II in SS, and several delica 4's). The ATS-55 Delica is just so light, has perfect balance, excellent ergo's, and the hollow-grind plus taper-tip make for a perfect point.

The delica 4 is a good model; but I think the 3rd generation Delica's were about as perfect as a knife can be. The Delica 4's tip is a little too 'stout', the handle not as substantial in the hand, and the nested liners add unnecessary weight.
My new ATS-55 Delica will no doubt stay clipped on my pocket for a long time to come, and I'm glad I re-discovered what I think is one of the finest models Spyderco has ever made. I hope they do sprint-runs on this model!

After getting a Spyderhawk, I think Spyderco should really have avoided the nested liners. Unnecessary weight.

Some will argue that they are needed to ground the clip srews, but Cold Steel manages to get a very strong clip screwed right into the FRN on their older Voyager designs (Don;t know if 2010 have liners or not)

I'm originally from central NJ, I'm finishing up graduate school at a Maryland University, and i currently spend most of my time in a suburb north of Philly with my gf.

And yes, I think the liners in FRN spyderco's should not have been introduced. the Gen 4 enduras and delicas do not feel any sturdier than the unlined iterations, but do feel significantly heavier.
