byrd fixed blade

#1

Post by daundu »

Hey all.

What about the idea of a byrd fixed blade? I for one don't have the funds for the regular Spyderco fixed blades; the byrd high quality and value we all know and love, paired with the increased durability would make me a happy camper, that's for sure.

Just throwing thoughts out there, but a smaller comet hole would make a stellar lanyard attatchment too.

Yah. I'm really curious about the byrd take on it though. So, both aspects are appealing.

I just gotta say that the $20 mule is so **** sharp. I keep it in my basement for a "beater" knife-- open up dog food bags, etc. I use it then a few strokes on the sharpmaker and back to normal.

I believe the topic has been discussed. I wouldn't be surprised if they did one :)

I think the only thing that would be difficult (within reason) is putting together a good sheath that wouldn't kill the price.

Time will tell and I'm not against it tho.

Hey,

I would love to see a Byrd fixed blade. Some true utility one, maybe 4" with a nice belly and G10 handle. Zitel sheath should be cheap.

I would love to see a Byrd fixed blade or two. A small neck knife and a nice utility fixed blade would be very cool.

I have thought that it would be nice if they produced a Byrd skeleton/mule-like blade for DIY projects. The 9Cr18Mo mule was great for only $20!

I would like to see a Byrd fixed blade: maybe like the street bowie or the smaller Hossam.

Sounds great to me!

I would surely buy one unless I just hated the design which is very unlikely.

I have kind of been wondering if the 8Cr kitchen knives are going to be Byrds. If anyone counts that as fixed blades. It could at least open the door...

I'd be in for a Fixed Byrd.

As said before, I would certainly be interested, but would definitely have to see what the options were looking like. If we were really looking at a 30 or 40% cost of a comparable :spyder: I would be all over it - the functionality for me would make up for the lack of premium steel. Agreed about sheath issues - might be better to look into user-made sheaths. G10 or similar inserts would be cool.

What, Switchback hating a byrd design? Psh. As if.

What about a nylon sheath with maybe an FRN entry point? Cheap, and fairly durable.

EDIT: Oh! And as for blade shapes, how about something borderline krambit for one design? Picture a full sized fixed blade, maybe five to seven inches, with a nice sweep to it.... A nice standard drop point, a fun bowie, and why not have a byrd kukri? Now THAT would look awesome.
