Bit disappointed at the new perrin ppt...
Was looking forward to making the new perrin ppt my new edc knife...
Until I just found out that it weighed 5.3 oz!
Anyone else a little disappointed in how much it weighs?

Yay, it's 0.2 oz lighter than my Gayle Bradley!spydernewbie wrote:Was looking forward to making the new perrin ppt my new edc knife...

Just messin with ya...I agree it's quite a chunk :) Still, I have one on the way being the Spydie nut that I am.
It's on par with the standard Manix2 which is perfectly EDC'able for many folks. The weight makes sense to me as there is a lot of steel and G10...it's basically a Sage2 with THICK scales.
I think with the 3D handle shape and sculpted scales it should be very comfy in hand. Looking at the pics it seems to be a GREAT hard user and SD blade.
It's not a banter-weight. Luckily we have knives like the Salt line and Rookie G10. Sometimes you want a brick in your pocket and sometimes not so much.

The combination of a wrong handed lock and partially blocked Spyderhole make it "lefty hostile", so I have zero interest in it. Whether it weighed half as much or twice as much wouldn't change that. On the other hand, it's four grams lighter than a Schempp Persian. So, if it had a midlock and the Spyderhole was fully accessible from both sides, the weight wouldn't bother me a bit.

Not really sure what the big deal is about the weight. If someone handed you a C83 Persian right now, would you not carry it because of the weight (5.38 oz.)? Seriously, yes, it's heavier than alot of other knives in the 3+" class, but we're generally talking a few tenths of an ounce. Personally, I don't really notice that all that much and it's definitely NOT a deal breaker for me. :p
I prefer to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

Thanks, but I can't be bothered. The fact that someone can do a parlor trick doesn't make me any more inclined to carry a knife with the lock and clip on the wrong side and a Spyderhole that's partially blocked for me. Someone once told me something regarding dogs that I've found to be true for many things - there's too **** many good ones out there to waste time or money on a bad one.Blerv wrote:Paul you might check out Jess' video on youtube. PPT is not my cup of tea, but weight is not a problem.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

I'll be getting a chance to handle one in person tomorrow. I'm expecting a very well made, perhaps even an overbuilt workhorse of a blade. Doubt I'll be disappointed. As far as the weight goes I can't honestly see that it's a deal breaker. We fought and won WWII with a 10lb rifle, I can't see being overcome by a 5oz knife.
No offense intended. The Deacon wrote:Thanks, but I can't be bothered. Your bias against "wrong handed" knives is very well known.

Buy what you want. There are certainly a few options out there.

I don't think I'd call it a bad one. It looks easy enough to use with both hands, eventhough I wouldn't go so far as to call it ambi. The Deacon wrote: there's too **** many good ones out there to waste time or money on a bad one.

"Bad" only in the sense of being unsuited to my needs. No single knife, or anything else, is "good" for everyone, The Bugatti Veyron is a beautiful car, but even if I could afford one, I would not own one. It is "bad" for me because as with the Perrin, it is unsuited to my physical parameters.flipe8 wrote:I don't think I'd call it a bad one. I'm confident the Perrin is a very well made knife and would give someone many years of excellent service. I'm also sure it could be operated with both hands, probably even by me. Let's just say I just see no need to embrace diversity when it comes to operating a pocket knife and leave it at that.
