Spyderco Torx set

#1

Post by aj1985 »

Is it time yet Sal. To be perfectly honest I sort of feel guilty every time I use a benchmade Torx set to open a spydie or tighten a pivot. I love all things spydie and a torx set would be fantastic.

Please :)

I've thought about this too, a tool for use on all Spyderco knives would be cool

In the mean time I use this guy

I concur. It could have bits to all the common screws on Spydies (i.e. a couple phillips head bits), not just torx. Maybe a custom bit for the oddball "screw" on Pacific Salts and such.

I use one of the Husky sets from Home Depot too. With 8 different sized bits, it has pretty much whatever bit you need.

Well to be honest, the main used Torx Bits are T-8 and T-6 (correct me if i am wrong) but i don't see a large market in making two torx bits, but i do like the idea of an "everything spyderco" screwdriver of sorts. Or do another one of those deals where you stick the tool on the back of a endura or something. (glock tool) I simply don't see a lot of people buying a spyderco Torx screwdriver who already OWN other Torx screwdrivers.

I believe 10 is used on some and also the 15. Correct me If i'm wrong :)

An entire set would be cool as well. For every spydie screw imaginable.

what about a collaboration with say.................
wait for it.................................

peter atwood?
i'm sure with some thought, he could design a tool , with a hole of course, that could somehow incorporate the necessary tools needed to adjust our knives.

I doubt that will ever happen.

I think a knife like the Lone Wolf Endura w/ the Glock takedown tool would be cool, except instead of the takedown, have an interchangeable Torx bit holder not unlike the Husky one shown above.

Atwood will make good design, but most of us will have to wait till Diwali/Christmas to order it - given its cost. :-)

Got that right. I don't need a tool made of solid S30v. I'd rather my knife by made of that steel. :) Plus, Peter has stated many times that he's "an artist, not a factory," so I doubt he'd be interested in making something to be mass produced. I'm not knocking Atwood and his designs, which I love, but I'd rather have something super functional than something aesthetically pleasing.

I know for sure that T10 is the pivot screw on the Manix 2. Not sure what uses T15 though.

You can always stop the Snap On truck, or Sears has great small torx sets.

I've seen T-6, T-8, T-9, T-10, and T-15 Torx screws on Spydercos. T-6 and T-10 are definitely the most common.

The T-15 is used as the pivot on SOME versions of the Military. Others use an Allen screw. No rhyme or reason to that, at least that I can see, more like "whatever the screw vendor had available". Not sure if any other models use, or have used, it.

I just bought the Wiha 75990 set has 9 Torx, Sae and Metric Allen, plus micro flat and phillips. I've eyeballed the Kershaw tool for a few years, but never pulled the trigger. I'd still definitely spring for a Spyderco badged set.

Because a screwdriver marked "Spyderco" can turn screws that much better than one marked "Husky" :-P.

In all seriousness though I'm just not interested in something like this because I think it's a bit kitsch. The exception is if it's really something new and unique and not just some made in china screw tool, but innovation comes at a price and what I have is good enough to take apart a few pocket knives.
