Rigged my Millie for tip-up carry

#1

Post by tac »

The only thing I wasn't real crazy about on my Millie was the tip-down carry, so I decided to see if something could be done about it. I already had a suspension clip from Tec Accessories I was using to carry a small flashlight. I attached the suspension clip to the Millie with a short length of paracord and removed the Millie's original clip:

The result is an inconspicuous, deep carry, tip-up Millie:

I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable the knife is to carry this way. If you're into doing a quick-draw, that's still easy to do. Since the knife isn't clamped tightly against my pants, I can simply reach in my pocket, grasp the knife and draw it out perfectly positioned in my palm.

I'll give this setup some pocket time and see if I want to keep it this way. It's certainly easy enough to change back if desired. Anyway, I thought my fellow Spydie-holics might find this interesting.

Great idea! I have an unused Tec Accessories P-7 clip sitting on my desk as I write this, and an orange Military on the way. Now I just need to find some paracord.

I strongly prefer tip-up carry, and this will be great for less conspicuous carry of that giant, orange knife.

that is a nice lil mod. i am not familiar with the clip, is it strong? i doubt a millie would slip out of someone's pocket but a smaller knife might if the clip did not hold on tight enough.

The clip is stainless steel, and seems to be pretty sturdy. It's grip is not quite as tight as the original Millie clip, but seems plenty tight to prevent a knife from slipping out, especially with the deep carry. I used that clip to carry a Fenix L0D flashlight for several months, and it worked great.

I used to use mine to carry a Quark Mini 123 flashlight, and I never had any problems with it either. They're great little clips.

Perhaps there's an obvious reason for it ,but I've always been puzzled as to why Spyderco doesn't offer the possibility of tip up carry on the Military. I like lanyards, and of course tip down carry puts the lanyard in your pocket, eliminating the possibility of at least catching your lanyard in a panic draw situation.
I only have one Military and I'm sure ,with all the variations in handles Spyderco has offered, I'd have at least a couple more if tip up carry were an option.
If I get find a clip like the one above I'll give it a try.
