Snipped by the Rock Lobster

#1

Post by Creepo »

Oooh boy I cut myself pretty bad, by far the worst cut so far, and that's coming from a guy who flips a balisong.
It was due to my own carelessness while cutting cardboard with my Rock Lobster. Right over the 2nd knuckle in my left thumb, like a 2 cm cut.

It bled pretty bad but it closed up and stopped bleeding pretty fast once I just stopped moving my thumb and wrapped it good. I can feel it itch a bit so it's healing, it should heal nicely as I had just sharpened my RL the previous day to one of the meanest edges I have ever put on my knives. (I could whittle hair and push cut paper with it... )

MAN did I freak out when it happened, it was like snap, outch and blood. I guess I kinda needed a bit of a reminder.
So remember kids, respect your knives and don't fool around with them, believe me, it sucks living with only one opposable thumb.

And for those of you who are more worried about the knife (I know you're out there :D ), the edge on it after it was undamaged even though it probably hit the knuckle bone.

EDIT:
People demanded pics, here ya go.
Some not-so-pretty pics of the healing cut:

You can see the wound starting from the bloody part and continuing all the way to the side.

Look at that precise straight cut at the side, it's dead straight and has pretty much closed up all the way, now that was sharp!
The top part hasn't closed up yet so you can get a glimpse of how deep it actually was. There also some bruising along the cut so it was quite an impact and hurts if you touch it. :) Enjoy and I hope you weren't eating while you clicked this open. :p

Ouch - at least it looks like you didn't sever a tendon :) I snapped a tendon a while back and it really isn't something you want to do ... ever ;)

Luckily not, I can still move my finger just fine at the joint. Actually one of the first things I checked for after I had wrapped it up.

Might be worth taking it easy for a while though or getting it x-rayed - just in case you nicked it. Mine was weakened from arthritis and one day it just snapped as I was pulling a sock on ... strange things was it didn't hurt at all ... my doctor seemed more worried about it than I was at the time :D

Whew, glad your ok. I ended up in emerg a few months back and came out with 3 stitches
and a tet shot when things went wrong fast making a carving knife.
Anyhow scars give you something to talk about afterwards. Take care.
Use your blades in the kitchen, it's great bonding time!

"Snipped by the Rock Lobster"

Whew! Glad it was just your thumb. In the U.S. when someone says they got "snipped" they mean to say they had a vasectomy. I'm sure you and the "boys" are glad you didn't do a self-procedure with the Rock Lobster. :D
You can't display a toad in a fine restaurant like this! Why, the good folks here would go right off the feed!

Oh come on... We need pre-bandage pictures!!!

No self-injury thread is quite the same without one.

I was waiting for a cab today and somehow managed to nick myself with my Ladybug.

I guess that's the price I pay for fondling a knife out of boredom! :p

There was a bit of worplay in the title but that's quite not what I was after. :D
More like snip as in what a lobster would do with its claw.

I'll keep it tied up for a few days even after it has healed, just to prevent myself from moving it. :o

nothing like babtizing a loved knife with your own blood to permanently bond it to you :D
i'm almost done recovering from a severed tendon in my right foot, dropped my forager on the floor and it magicaly jumped out from it's sheath, nicking me with the 90 degree edge at the handle, right on the upper tendon for my big toe. half an inch cut, perfectly spot-on on the tendon...surgeon said it was a surgicaly precise cut, i wouldn't have hit it that good if i tried, made me proud :D

Wow, nice cut. I hope you don't have too much itching. I always dig at my scabs after a few days. =\
