Hey guys, I have been thinking about getting this knife. Seems like it will go nice with dress clothes being as it is lightweight and slim.

Only thing I dont like is the pocketclip :(

On the pocket clip..........

I thought the same thing at 1st, and planned to move it.
Then after using it for a while realized its more for ergonomic's than look or ride height.
Depending on the grip, your index or middle finger ride in the belly of the clip.
Neat design.

Rather than moving it, I might remove it and see how it goes.
Easy enough to put it back on.

Tried it without the clip. I didnt care for it at all. Too slick.
The clip on this knife plays several roles. Aids with one handed opening, closing and grip.

Just my opinion........

I don't know if I'd consider it a problem as much as I'd consider it a rough around the edges personality. :p

Has anyone experienced the "rough around the edges" issues that Donut has, including rough edges and/or cracks?

My Walker has some chips around the edge and around some of the bolts. Doesn't affect it's use though. I still love it :)

Macho

Fit and finish on my Walker is perfect. CF must be some hard stuff just like the ZDP. This must be one macho little knife, even the profile looks tough.

yes.

Disclaimer - this is not a flame or intended as a generalization about Spyderco quality!!!! (I can't believe simply showing these pictures on another forum and asking if these are "typical" for CF scales - which I honestly didn't know because I hadn't gotten new CF in many years, and answering some follow up replies, caused some to question my agenda...Sal, mods, please feel free to delete if inappropriate. )

I want one.....but I'm a cheapskate, and hesitant to pay more than $100 for F&F that may or may not equal that of value priced blades such as the Persistence.

Thanks, Donut. Just thought I'd help "bolster" your point.

Get it, "bolster?" :D sorry, I couldn't resist.

Actually, the weave of the CF on this Walker Sprint run does provide some surface "pattern" that I like; I really love the Gayle Bradley (the quality is impeccable, surprising given it's MIT - Made in Taiwan - yes, I know, old prejudices die hard  ) but it's totally smooth surface (all binder) doesn't give the total "CF weave" effect.

There's the visual aspect to CF, and then there are the haptics...

Plus, the GB is too big and heavy to keep in dress slacks or the little coin pocket of jeans, the Walker is perfect for that, and might finally replace my trusty William Henry Kestral Ti/ZPD189 in that little hideaway.

Interesting take on my name. :)

The GB is a good mid-sized to large knife, though. The finishing on mine is amazing as well. The Walker is great for what it is, a small knife.

Carbon Fiber

Damfan:

Super pics.

Is that a single carbon fiber I see sticking up in your pic?

Looks like a hard/brittle material.

Nice changes!

Mine did have a rough edge which was only an invitation to sharpening :) The fit and finnish is good.

Though I find it strange if it's one CARBON fiber. I'm not sure what it is, could be a very long "burr" of CF resin?!?

Next time I'll have to put it under the Zeiss stereomicroscope.

:-)

Thanks for the kind words.

ZDP Stretch vs GB

#40

Post by damfan »

Reeper22 wrote:Damfan, do you like your zdp Stretch or GB more?
Interesting question.

Actually, when I got the stretch, I had to do a double and triple take - it really looks like G-10 rather than CF, especially with the tight "guilloche" pattern that provides nice grip but isn't so good looking to my eyes.

I like the GB MUCH better but it really is too bulky and heavy for a pocket EDC. Maybe holstered, but for that I'd take the clip off.

For pocket carry, I'm really hoping to get the Walker CF/ZPD back in properly finished condition (replacements) to see how I like them, they have all the qualities.

For now I'm sticking with my William Henry Kestral ZPD/Ti for always with me EDC, and Kershaw Random Leek for when I think I'll need a larger blade (clipped to trouser inside belt.)
