Just noticed that Spyderco is easily winning a poll among EDC enthusiasts...

That's great news. It's interesting to see EDC picture threads, when people show what they carry I don't see many Spyderco's. When they express their opinions, Spyderco is in them.

It is a good sign. :)

I'm surprised Kershaw isn't on the list, not that I would vote Kershaw over spydie though, it would have been a stronger contender over many other brands though. CRKT, for real?

CRKT is a joke, but it's affordable for many. I would've liked to have seen Kershaw or SOG as well. It's not a surprise to see Spyderco on the top though :) Kick-***!

^^ True, but then if the majority of CRKT users have tried the Persistence and Tenacious, they wouldn't go back to CRKT

I think in Europe you'd find that Victorinox would be massively dominant in the EDC market - they are in every outdoors/sports shop. Over here if you say 'penknife' 99% of Joe Public will imagine a red-handled pocket knife with blade, bottle opener, scissors etc. Only knuts like us would even think of EDCing another brand.

That said, I am not surprised with Spyderco coming out on top - they have always been interested in adapting their product line to meet what customers are asking for. They took big risks making SLIPITs but now the UKPK has become one of the main EDCs for knuts over here and with models like the DKPK and Chicago it's clear they are looking to the future and keen to allow more and more people to EDC a quality folding knife - always adapting to the newer, more restrictive laws :)
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)

I would have voted for Victorinox being number 1 EDC brand. Followed by Spyderco and SOG. Maybe it is a European thing, but a SAK is a MUST for EDC enthusiasts.

Still, even when I carry a SAK, my main blade is a Spyderco or SOG. The SAK is for situations where my main blade is overkill (I do not need a Police or Vulcan to open a letter in public) and for the additional tools.

Well, my Vic has been on my keyring for about 20 years now (Not THE SAME though, when they get ugly, I just replace it, they're cheap), so it is SO MUCH EDC I don't even think about it as such (Proof: I even managed to try checking in a Lufthansa flight without thinking about my keys incl Vic. Well, it was time for a new one after that flight :D ).

When I need a knife, I usually reach for my EDC Spydie, because that is much faster than fiddling my keys out of the pocket and opening the Vic two-handed. On the other side, there MAY be times I am without my Spydie, but I NEVER am outside the house without my keys. So basically, you'll never see me without something sharp around :)

I voted for Spyderco though.
