The Hunter somewhere in the middle 80's. I still have it, it's clipped to my tool bag in my trunk, used to carry that bag around when I worked.

My first was a C83 Persian. I had no idea about Spyderco until my brother had come home from visiting some relatives. He came home and showed me his C83 Persian that our Uncle got him and I immediately fell in love. Then my brother pulled out a Spyderco box and handed it to me and said that this(C83 Persian) was mine and it was from our Uncle. I was on cloud 9. Still have the knife ( it was about 4 years ago) and I will always have it.

my first was a gin-2 fs delica with the integral clip that a friend gifted to me back in the early 90's, tortured that knife for about 6 years of edc, cause it was the only decent knife i had. broke the tip, reprofiled it myself, had to send it back to golden for a lock fix but it just wouldn't give up. i still carry it every once in a while.

a G2 ( Gin 1) FRN SE Endura . It was the first one I saw, which was at a gunshow. They hadn't yet made it to any local stores. This was whatever year they were released. I'm thinking around, but no later than 1992.

I still have it, FRN clip and everything. Every now and then I carry it, though I no longer use the clip of course.

Shortly afterward I bought a FRN SE Delica for my brother, and a black ti ( ?) delica SE, Right hand FRN for me for swimming and such. I still have that too.

Got my first spydie in '89 or '90, a SE Endura out of the luscious Cutlery Shoppe catalogs that they used to mail out. My mom had to order it for me. Gave it to a friend in 94 or so. Never really used it since it was too big for me.

My first spydie was a red ladybug from fellow member Quattrokid73. It sat on my keychain for over a year and got plenty of use.

The first spyderco I bought was the ZDP delica. I love delicas and plan to keep mine forever.

My first spyderco was a benchmade AFCK axis with the spydie-hole and the gold butterfly etched into the back of the g-10 scale. This must have been in the neighborhood of 10 years ago. My second (actual first) was a mini persian and my third was a ronin. I have long since traded all those knives. I wish I had kept the AFCK though...oh well its time for an orange military to replace it.

Ocelot was my first Spydie. I had a Benchmade Mini-Griptillian, but it wasn't much of a camping knife, and I wanted something sturdy, reliable, sharp, and capable of holding an edge with moderate to hard use. It's been on two major backpacking trips and is still able to cut paper at an angle.

In '97 or '98, my best friend in high school had bought an Endura and I was impressed with it, so I decided to check out Spyderco. I stumbled across a model known as the Q. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before, with the innovative lock, laser-skeletonized blade, and the ubiquitous -at least in the Spyderco world- thumbhole; so I picked it up. It stayed in my pocket as I moved down to Brazil in late '99 (it didn't even leave the pocket for the plane ride). Soon after it "disappeared" and I went knifeless for about a year and a half.

After moving back to the US I picked up a blue serrated Delica and EDC'd that for about 7 years. A couple years ago I picked up a Caly3 so the Delica got sent back to Golden for its first sharpening and a cleaning up (I've since picked up a sharpmaker and learned how to use it). The Delica mostly just hangs out and rests, but is ready for any action that I might call it out for!

My first Spyderco was a Goddard Jr. with White Micarta scales. I got it from a site that had daily deals on knives, I thought it was a good price. It was somewhat good. I still have it.

When I was a kid I had a Swiss Army Knife or two, they always broke. The scales would fall off, the small parts would break or get lost... They just didn't offer much for what I wanted to use a knife for.

Maybe 8 years ago, I got a couple Buck knives (without clips) for some work duty. They were okay, one of them closed on my finger and I still have a scar from it. I got a Kershaw and a Buck from Walmart after that (with clips), carried them for a couple years, then stopped carrying then off/on carrying a knife for a couple years.

I saw the movie "Last House on the Left", where some bad people had escaped from jail and were terrorizing a family. Most of the time the only advantage they had was that of a knife. I think it was a SS Endura SE in the movie. I thought to myself, why should the bad guys be the ones to have the good knife? I don't know how long it took me to find out who Spyderco was and to make it here, probably almost a year.

My first was a Spyderco Tenacious. I honestly can't remember if I sold it or not! I was planning on selling it because I don't really use it, but every time I decide to sell it I rediscover how awesome the knife is to play with. But at the end of the day it's a great knife for the money, but there are so many other Spydies I'd rather carry because I don't like the grip on the Tenacious.

The first for me was an SE Native, I used it briefly and while it did intrigue me for a little while, I never truly warmed to it and the ergo's never suited me either. I recently passed it on to a friend in need (he loves it!). My 2nd Spydie, the Caly Jr was the real gateway drug though ....

Co-Pilot serrated blade, brass liners. Bought at Plaza Cutlery's old Palm Desert store in August of 1988. I took it that day!

The clip, the hole, the blade, the size. The standard metal Spyderco clip is one of my top favorite things ever! It is up there with Rolex as things I love.

I also have a SAK I bought in 1978, and still carry it.

Also, I have many SAKs that are in different locations, and bags. You can never have too many SAKs, or Spydercos . Both in expensive well made fun to own tools that work.

I think a SAK and a Spyderco go great together.

My first Spyderco was a C104 Kris. I saw a photo of one online, and it was love at first sight. I thought any company making a folding pocket kris had to be innovative, daring, and fun too. And how right I was!

I like all my :spyder: but I like the Ed Schempp collaborations the best. Amazing ergos, excellent cutting ability, and wonderful aesthetics all combined. To me, they're like highly functional art. I've got them all except the venerated C83 Persian. I am GREATLY looking forward to the Sprint run. Also looking forward to the Ed Schempp Balance. I looks like a very cool piece.

If you haven't seen the Balance yet, here's it is:

A Hunter. Back in the early '80s. Great knife. It found it's way to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico one day. I still miss that knife. It was a great one. Phoenix has been a great replacement for it, though.
