Paramilitary 2 - The perfect knife?

#1

Post by HotSoup »

I had once, long ago handled a Military that belonged to a police officer. He was kind enough to let me play with it as he browsed the store. It was nice, but it never really caught my eye.

After having been collecting for a while now, I appreciate the finer things in knives.

Another customer recently came in and we struck up a conversation about knives. He was carrying a Paramilitary. I took a look at it, and was simply amazed at how light and quick it was. What an awesome design.

This got me interested. I started looking at Paras and Milies that night online. Watched reviews, and decided I wanted a Milie (I'll always opt for the bigger knife. I usually prefer them to smaller ones).

Now as some of you might know, I just received my first Milie as a birthday gift for my twentieth birthday. What an amazing knife. I love it.

I also just saw the video of the Paramilitary 2 and all its refinements, and am thinking to myself "Thats it, thats the epitome of the EDC knife. I MUST HAVE ONE"

I once told myself I'd never be a Military fanboy, but those days are long gone. I've taken a hit of the smooth sweet opiate that is the Military line, and now don't foresee myself loving another Spyderco more.

It appears to be a perfect EDC knife to my eyes, too.

We'll see how it looks when we get one.

The Para 2 is my grail knife. I've been holding off on pulling the trigger on a Para - which was tough, since I had an opportunity to get a D2 version at a great price.

When I saw Wouter's photos I knew that the Para 2 was a day one purchase for me. I can't wait for its release.

I have not yet picked up a mili, and when I learned of the Para 2, I thought I'd wait and see. After seeing the pictures, I feel the same as the other posts. I will purchase it fairly early and then likely collect the sprint runs in exotic steels and scales. Eventually I'll probably get a mili, but it seems too big for my purposes. I think it's an exceptional knive for military and law enforcement use. Maybe as a workhorse knife, but I prefer the Manix 2 for that activity, because of it's bulky blade. I am looking for that perfect EDC, I also thought of the Caly 3.5. Like most of us, I'm sure I will end up saying the perfect EDC is one of 20+ knives in my collection - it all depends on the day and mood.

The day and mood have alot to do with it along with the task we might encounter. There is no PERFECT knife only the CHASE. We all love the chase now don't we.

Every now and then, Zeus sends us mortals a gift. Crafted by Hephaestus, imbued with power and grace. Delivered by Hermes himself. This gift, the Paramilitary 2, will surely stand out amongst the feeble instruments that man hath created and rise up to be the new standard of edged tools. Heed my words, this blade of Olympic proportions shall not be ignored.

Perfect knife? Already? Jeez, let it come out first, and then say it's the perfect knife. I mean, I have high hopes for it as well, but to say it's the perfect knife only having seen pics... It's like saying a president is "greater than Lincoln, FDR, and JFK combined" 2 hours after inauguration.

its like giving a Peace Prize to someone that hasn't done anything.....and we did that. So I would like to give the Para 2 a reward for the most awesome knife ever.

Since one of the nice features about the Para is it's light weight, I'd like to know how much weight the added liner material adds on the Para 2.

I think the Paramilitary II will be the one that will set the new standards for folding knives in general. The prototype looks very promising.

I've owned 4 different PM's and have eventually sold each after not being able to get totally comfortable with them. I bought one last one, the D2, because of the great deal I got on it but haven't plugged it into the EDC line up yet. It looks like the PM2 has addressed all the things I didn't like about the PM so the D2 stays in the safe until I get a chance to use the PM2.

i picked up a D2 when they were starting to disappear. and am very happy with it. as someone else said the few things about the para i dislike. All in all though it still is a favorite knife in my selection. the few flaws i saw seem to be addressed in the new version. so i will most likely pick up a new paramilitary as soon as they are released or i may wait for a bit and see what variants pop up.
