Who else would like to see a Spyderco/Les George Collab?

#1

Post by vaa »

I was just checking out another forum's custom knife section and came across Les George. He makes some really nice folders and fixed blades. He's also licensed to use the Spydie Hole on his designs.

What are the chances that this could happen? I think a collab version of the Rockeye or Hydra R would be sick. :D It could bring another Ti frame lock into the mix.

Les, didn't you make that huge FM-1 in Stellite with a Spyderhole?
Love your knives, BTW.

Yes Sir, thank you. :D

I'd also like to thank the Spyderco Crew for being so easy to work with in the licensing deal and for talking to be for like an hour at SHOT show! :)

Hmmm, I don't believe in coincidences. First this thread, then Les posting on the forum for the first time... Something cool must be going on. :D

Doesn't really do anything for me. Looks like a plain jane knife--a nice plain knife--but a knife nonetheless. Don't really see any innovation. :(

I would love to have a plain jain knife. :p :)

Currenly Les George's order books are full. He is good at what he does. He makes incredible folders for the price point. The man is truly one of the coolest guys out there. I know everyone buys the knife, but I buy the maker as well. With Les you can't go wrong. A spydie collab will give people a chance at his designs who otherwise will never get a custom straight from Les for either financial or availability reasons.

With every knife Spyderco doesn't need to break the mould and think fully out of the box.

Put a good steel and a good handle material people will buy Les Georges Folders. ;)

I would go with the Rockeye over the FM-1. I think the Rockeye is a gorgeous knife.

aj

p.s Please let me know whenever the orderbooks open. :)

I have a Les George FM-1 in CTS-XHP. I love it, beautifully executed, smooth as silk and built to last. Les does large folders really well. Maybe the collaboration challenge for Spyderco/Les could be a slightly smaller folding integral lock knife. Something just a bit more pocket friendly than his custom offerings. Seems like that would be very palatable from a marketing standpoint as well. Just a thought.

I don't have a clue how these collaborations come to pass but I'd love to see it happen!

I'd like to see a Les George collaboration. I really dig the idea of a Spyder Hydra.

I think the bladeshape of the Hydra would make an excellent fixed blade for processing wood.

I can see a fixed Hydra with a little Spydie hole and bug on the blade! :p

I would be all over a Rockeye collaboration in CTS-XHP. Great Idea. His work in progress Rockeye knife on the Jerzee Devil Website was out of this world. It is one knife I fell in love with at first site.

I believe that's Les George's entry for the CK&G Forum 2010 Build-Off. He won second place behind Jeremy Marsh.
Of course, that one too looks like a Starmate...
