The orange Urban has not left my watch pocket (except to cut stuff) since I got it.

Pocket Meerkat

#22

Post by iwolf81 »

The Meerkat sprint run fits in the coin pocket well and is nicely hidden, though it does dig slightly into the hip when sitting.

Regards,
Ira

A Kiwi is usually my coin pocket EDC. I gave my wife and daughter my two "fancy" Kiwis, so I'm left with the CF.

For coin pocket, most of the LBKs work fine. The obvious choices to me are those without clips - ladybug, kiwi, microdyad. I carry my microdyad in coin pocket. For clipped versions, I find the 'larger' small knives are kind of irritating since that is where my jeans want to fold. For example my Leafstorm in coin pocket is really uncomfortable. My Spin or Cricket are perfect. At the end of the day it all what feels right in your own pocket. Buy 'em all and try 'em all, I say.

I'm with Paul's alternate suggestion: CLB Lava! It rocks a watch pocket.

First I have a Chicago and had none of those issues. the meercat is great. the dragonfly is a great fit in my hand and is my small knife choice although I consider the SS to be too heavy. Someone mentioned Urban and I would agree with that nomination, with the exception it may be a bit long for what you are asking.

My Chicago and the recently arrived Cat have perfect fit & finish.
Apart from the Chicago I suggest a Meerkat, Co-Pilot, Dragonfly, Ladybug, Lava, Spin, Cricket

I haven't picked up a Chicago or Cat so I can't comment on them. The knives that find there way in to my pocket are the ladybugs, Cricket, or Meerkat sprint. I sometimes carry my Ladybug Hawk and Meerkat in the coin pocket.

Today its just the Meerkat.

I've had great luck with both the G-10 Dragonfly and the Lava as small knives for pocket, or for travel to places with blade length restrictions. The Lava is very smooth in the hand as well as the pocket and is kind of "dressy." The new dragonfly is, to me, the perfect package of features.

Walker CF will fit, but it sticks up an inch and the shiny stainless clip is very visible. The clip also is kind of in the way when using the pocket.

(The Walker really is gorgeous pocket jewelry as well as being a terrific linerlock knife. Mine has become my EDC, but I don't carry it in the watch pocket. I clip it in back or carry inside the front pocket.)

I don't know if I just have a big one(coin pocket :D ) but I carry anything up to a Manix 2 in my work pants. My favorite coin pocket carry though is either my UKPKDP or CF Caly 3 or Stretch FRN.

Don't pass on the chicago too quickly. I've been carrying one for three weeks now and I'm really impressed! It is a super sturdy little knife with a versatile blade shape. I have have also found I prefer the S30V steel in a blade this small because it holds an edge much longer for me with my EDC tasks.

I'd go for a Meerkat, it has the most comfortable handle I've tried in a knife its size. The Cricket and Dragonfly are really cool little knives, but I've got big hands and find them just too small to use comfortably.

Of course, this is all very personal and subjective.

Thanks everyone for your time and suggestions.

Ended up choosing a Chicago - because I like very much its big brother Sage CF and NGK told me they were checking the knife before shipping, to catch any obvious QC failure (first time I order from them, BTW; hope everything will go fine).
I've seen some pictures of the suggested knife carried vertically (clipped) into the coin/watch pocket - I'm actually planning on carrying the Chicago horizontally, completely inside the pocket.

Take care

Because I'm never without a decent sized folder in my RFP, anything in the coin pocket interferes with the drawing, so I leave it empty. Even the Zippo isn't allowed to ride in there.
