#1

Post by chuck_roxas45 »

just out of curiosity, what's the hardest use folder that spyderco produces? or the one that can take the most abuse?

of the current production knives the toughest would be the Gayle Bradley.

I'd say the Manix 2 is probably on par with that.

+1 Gayle Bradley, it's a big chunk of steel and CF.

I'd say it's between the Gayle Bradley or Manix 2. The GB has a CPM M-4 blade which is significantly tougher than the 154CM of the Manix 2. But the Manix 2 has the Gayle Bradley beat in lock strength, caged ball bearing lock versus liner lock.

From everything I've heard the Manix 2 must be somewhere near the top.

I'd venture to say the question of lock strength is pure academic, you are not going to break the lock on Gayle Bradley in any task realistic for a knife.

ah validation. i'm planning on getting a manix 2 but budget constraints dictate the 154 cm bladed one.

The lock strength does not matter unless your hard use is using the spine.
I used to NOT like thumbholes. Until I used one.
Just like I didn't like the look of Spyderco knives in general. Until I held one.

I think that I would put the Delicas/Enduras in this category...

I think it's a toss up between the GB, Manix 2, Ti Millie, and Para.

I'd put the Chinook III very near, if not at, the top of the list. While it's not quite as robust as the original Chinook, which has to be the strongest folder Spyderco ever built, it's still one a tank of a knife.
