Chum here, a newbie from Quezon City, Metro Manila, in the Philippines.
I have been a lurker here for quite some time now, and it was only recently that I registered. I started on Buck knives, but I have to admit that I was always curious about them knives with the holes in 'em. I was a thumbstud guy at first. My first thumbstud knife was a Buck Lightning. However, one of the forumers here, brother Gills, suggested I try a Spyderco NAtive in S30V. Not knowing any better, I didn't really care about what metal the knife was made of, as long as it was a folding one (hey, I was such a greenie then :o ) So I had one of my Aunts buy me and my brothers 3 of these Natives from Walmart in the US.
Well, that knife was a bittersweet introduction to Spyderco. You see, one of my Aunt's cousins saw my knife (this was before I got it), and wanted it. However, my Aunt told him that she had only bought three pieces, and they were already accounted for. The S.O.B. in a fit of Envy took the knife, stuck it in a tree, and broke off the tip :mad: So when I received the knife, the tip was broken off, and part of what was left of it was bent/crooked. Heartbreaking :eek:

Well, that was about three years ago. Since then, I have been collecting on and off, but recently, I have been on a Spyderco spree. So far my very little collection (as compared to you guys :D ) consists of 9 Spydies and a Byrd:
Native, PE, S30V (tip restored by Gills);
Another Native, also PE, S30V (my brother's, but in my "custody");
Endura 4, CE, VG10 (got this on a trade with Gills);
Delica 4, PE, waved, VG10, Blue;
Delica 4, ZDP 189, PE, Green;
Centofante 3 (this one is a gem);
Tenacious, SE;
Byrd Caracara, PE.
I mentioned 9 Spydies didn't I? Well, the next two I was able to get just recently (I've had them a Week). These two have really done it for me so far:
Blue Dodo, SE;
Spyderhawk, SE, with the Endura handle, black FRN.
My God, what a revelation these two have been. As a lurker reading the posts (and I visit this forum everyday), I never really understood what the appeal of the Dodo was. But now, having carried this knife as a regular EDC these past four days, I am beginning to understand the appeal of the Dodo. Ergonomic, super sharp, awesome really!
The Spyderhawk has been another revelation. "Scary" was the first word that came to mind when I first held it, but I have been putting it to good use. What a cutter, scary sharp as well, and just awesome to look at. And through reading the posts on this forum, I have come to learn that the Endura handle on it adds something special to it. What a treat!
Well, I am hooked! Sal, you are the MAN! Thank you for giving the world such great knives. I am planning to order a Pacific Salt and a Caracara in G10 by the end of the month (hopefully a Tasman Salt as well), and I am hoping to add to my collection. Spyderco really does it for me, I have even started selling off the other Bucks that I have. I trade them off sometimes for Spydercos :D
I hope to participate in the discussions here. Consider me a humble student to you guys! (Or in Starwars fashion, a Padawan? :D )
Thanks,
Chum, aka cube.root.sam
