I think it's a shame hector and i are the only ones who would pick a forrester. It really is an excellent knife for the camp. It actually was just rated 5 out of 5 in a recent knife magazine with a field knife shoot out.

Rock Salt is a great choice. But for me I'd probably go Bushcraft for survival and a Spyderhawk Salt for something rustproof and serrated. I think the Military is too obvious a choice lol.

The Deacon wrote:As Dirty Harry said, "a man's gotta know his limitations". At 64, overweight, arthritic, and with zero training in MBC, my usefulness for hand to hand combat would be minimal. On the other hand, I can still hit a grapefruit at 500 yards and don't think I've forgotten everything I once knew about explosives, so I'd stick with sniping and IEDs and leave the mano-a-mano stuff to the young. ;) :D

As for knives, I'd go with a Forrester for camp chores and a Stretch for general use and food prep.
Paul is a smart guy :D I'd swap the Stretch for a Millie though ;)

C'mon, how could you not pick the Warrior and the S90V Military for guerrilla warfare? They're both very versatile and between them cover a lot of ground.
Well said, and funny!

For me? My Military, and Toad back.

That ought take care to those Commies! wait...are they Commies? they act like capitalist's to me, I Don't know?

I liked it better when they were just regular old Commies!

Actually, the original is quite a good movie. Like much fiction, it does ask the viewer or reader to suspend rationality. It is not just an action movie (though in the pre Arnold/ pre Rambo era it was quite violent), but has fully developed characters and pretty heavy subplots.

here is a funny though. According to Wikipedia, on the day the parachute invasion was filmed, it was quite windy. One jumper blew way off course, dressed in a Russian uniform, carrying a russian rifle. He hung up in a tree. He was approached by several citizens of the state--New Mexico--some of whom were armed!! He had to shout out a warning!

All I can say is: good thing they didn't film in Texas! :p

Rock Salt and S90V Millie.
...but I'd need another with teeth. Jumpmaster or Pac Salt?
Obviously, if we were being invaded, having only two knives would not be enough!

I read somewhere that "Slow is Smooth, smooth is fast." I'd go with the two spyderco blades I am most comfortable with, and are the smoothest for me to carry, deploy and use.

That being said.

JD Smith (the new one with FG G10) and the Temperance 2.

The Toad may be small, but it could be quite a surprise to someone.

You can hid them easy and they are very sharp.

Just a thought.

Hmmm....

Assuming a SERE sort of situation, I'm not going to be vying for a large camp-chopper. I like em, but want something just a bit more pointy-like. if I was unable to obtain a Perrin or Temperance (black blade), I'd go w/ the Warrior.

For a folder I gotta say I'd stick w/ a G-10 Endura or some similar analog.

Want list: ZDP Stretch, Original and New Yojimbos, Perrin PPT
My wish-existed list: More MBC-esque blades.

Results so far: (went with first written where more than one, clumped variations into single category for ease):

Folder:
Military: 18
Manix: 8
Chinook: 3
Impala, Barong, Stretch, ATR, Lava, Rice Bowl, ladybug, pac. salt, persian, rock lobster, starmate, P'kal, Hawk salt, Toad, Paramilitary, JD Smith, G-10 endura--all with 1 each

Fixed:
Rock Salt: 16
Warrior: 6
Temp 2: 7
Forrester: 4
Bushcraft: 2
Chopsticks, Forager, Jumpmaster, Perrin, aqua salt each with 1 vote.
