Ramblings after ten years of Spyderco (short, as ramblings go)
Hey all,
No I haven't been a forum member for ten years, but I realized got my first Spyderco knife about ten years ago. I was 14 and my cousin had asked me if I was familiar with Spyderco because he knew I liked knives (had since I was very young) and he had a Military. I wasn't and I immediately logged onto the website. I didn't have any money or a credit card to order one online but as soon as I saw that bright orange Rescue Mini and those serration's I had to have one! I convinced mom to order it for me :D
It's long gone, and I've had countless Spydies since. There's been time where my entire collection was Spyderco, and it's always been the majority, even now that my collection is quite small compared to what it used to be; I hardly have any, something like 10.
These days, like most, I see the Military as the epitome of Spyderco design. I still go  when someone has one. I currently don't have one and I realized it must be corrected. I still see it as one of the best go-to knives I've ever had. Coming up close behind would be my Spyderedge Endura 3 FRN. It's a classic. I don't really like the E4 but I have the USN model for collection sake.
That being said I still am amazed by the endless innovation. The new models always impress! Can't wait for the FRN UKPK and FFG D4/E4 those colors are sick!
Anyway, what I'm getting at is that after a decade of wandering all over the knife world I have two constants: A Sebenza and Spyderco, both of which I consider equals for different reasons, and that's saying something when a $100 knife challenges a $400 knife for my pocket. :D
What is it about this brand that always keeps me coming back? Sometimes I forget that other brands like Emerson, Kershaw, and Benchmade even exist! They just don't have the same qualities that make Spyderco so great. I just feel like a Spydie could never fail me when I need to cut something.
I'm sure I will have at least one Spyderco at any given time for the rest of my life.
Cheers!
***Edit:
I'm obviously getting a Military. But I can't decide between a leaf blade UKPK or drop point UKPK. Help! Also, looks like the Caly 3 is still in production? I thought it was discontinued.

I feel the same way...I have a medium size custom collection from the tactical brand makers, however, I really love my Spyderco's too!
If you are thinking about picking up a new Military, consider the orange.
I like the Military models also. That with the Police, and Delica/Endurad are the classic models.
Spyderco seems to have something for everyone, and very few makers can claim that.
Best,
Toad

I agree, I carry a SE Spyderco everyday as a backup knife and have done so for years. SE Cricket, SE Caly3, and now the SE ZDP Delica is my go to cutter. When I'm just hanging out at the house it's only the ZDP SE Delica.
I carry a "main knife" and a backup knife(SE ZDP Delica IWB) everyday.... But that says something when I leave the "highend... IE $400-$900 folder in my pocket and cut with the SE ZDP Delica. Not because Im afraid to use my "highend" knives, it's because the SE Spyderco just does most jobs better!

That's interesting because the Spyderco online store says the G-10 version is still in stock, not discontinued. But I know it wasn't in the printed catalogue and the carbon fiber one is. I should get one of those...mr.vu wrote:Thanks for sharing.
Digi camo is my favorite Millie handle variation. I prefer the leaf blade on the UKPK. The ZDP-189/CF Caly 3 is the only one still in production, however you can still find the VG-10/G-10 variations.

Getting the Orange G-10 Military ties together your love for the model with the color of that original Spyderco Rescue that you got.
For me, I think the DP UKPK is brilliant! I love using the FG G-10 model, but I will definitely augment it with the FRN models.

Did you get it yet, the Millie?dorfinator wrote:I'm anxiously waiting for delivery on my first Mili, a digi cam model with the black PE blade. I also have the drop point UKPK and love it too (a mini Stretch). Light but quite capable.
UKPK drop point is like a Mini Stretch, you're right, but I'm such a sucker for the leaf blade! I chose to get a leaf blade Urban before a UKPK and it arrived today with a matching FG ladybug for my keys. Both are awesome solid little knives. I love how grippy the G-10 is on the Urban. I like it so much I may get a second just for the **** of it, but another leaf, had the orange wharncliffe, didn't like it as much. It didn't have any of the sex appeal that my other wharncliffes have.

I'm just starting to shake as the post office says they've delivered it. I'm not at home but had the knife delivered to where I'm going thru training. I have to go in tomorrow for class (I know its Sunday) and the secretary that works the front desk says she'll have it there waiting for me. :DJediKnight86 wrote:Did you get it yet, the Millie?
