Ladybug blade play....

#1

Post by Shifty »

Do many people here find their FRN Ladybugs have a fair amount of side to side play? I've only had mine for a month, and the most strenuous cutting task it has seen was cutting a few pieces of twine, yet there seems to be a lot of side to side play.

It had a little bit to begin with, and the few FRN Ladybugs I have seen (even brand new) have some side to side play when you grab the blade near the tip and gently wiggle it, but it seems to have increased. Of course screw construction would be stupid on a Ladybug, but it's too bad that just the pivot is not the screw type.

I bought an SS model which is rock solid, but I find the handle too slippery. The jimping on the thumb ramp is awesome, but there is no jimping to anchor your middle, and ring fingers, to counter the force of your thumb pushing the knife forward when using a firm grip. Would be awesome to see some jimping in these finger grooves on the SS scales.

I have edc a ladybug for over 5 years that I bought used and I use it hard and still no play.Maybe you can try to peen the pivot a bit?Be careful no to do more than needed or it will be hard to open.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

Ive got two ladybugs and usually have one of them with me each day to use..I havent ever had any problems with it. If its too bad you might want to check with spyderco to see what they can do for you.

Mine has play as well.
Its because of the pin construction, not much you can do.

I've handled dozens of them, as we sell them at the store, and they ALL have it.

Is it possible to peen the pin gently on the pin constructed knives?

I had an H1 ladybug with the same issue. Pliers and some hand strength got mine back tight. I still have that one BTW and its still good to go.
...oh you know why!

Mine's been used for a while now too, and no play at all. Rock solid.
