Salt 1 closed looks

#1

Post by Kenix »

This has always bothered me a bit about hawkbill blades, but why does the salt 1 have a bit of the grind showing when the blade is in the handle? Was the delica 3 like this too? I think it really takes away from the fluidity of the aesthetics. It almost looks wrong, like there's a piece of gunk stuck in the pivot that's preventing the blade from closing all the way.

I don't think the Salt 1 is about aesthetics. It goes about function, and if you trade function fot aesthetics, you do something wrong in my opinion. The Salt 1 is not made for the looks, I think.

The way a knife looks closed is probably the least of the concerns of the design team.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

It would look better if it was FFG =p

ah wishful thinking...
I used to NOT like thumbholes. Until I used one.
Just like I didn't like the look of Spyderco knives in general. Until I held one.

Yes, the Delica 3 was almost exactly like that. I can't remember anyone ever voicing this complaint before. The normal complaint I've heard about this, and many other folding knives, is the exposed corner of the tang when closed. FWIW, the grind on what I consider to be the best looking knife Spyderco has ever sold, the C83 Pesian is also partially exposed.

Yes, I wouldn't call it a flaw, but despite everything, there's a tiny bit of hesitation every time I look at this knife when I wonder if it's really closed all the way. Looks like im in the minority on this mental hiccup

I also feel that it looks kind of strange when its closed. I actually want one really bad because I live right near salt water but I haven't gotten passed the way it looks closed
