Anyone carry the Lum Chinese for EDC??

#1

Post by KBR »

I just picked up a green Lum PE, in VG-10, yesterday and decided to carry it as one of my EDCs today. At times I would just take it out and admire it, but I soon found out that it's not just a beautiful knife. This cuts with a vengeance!! Because of this, I am seriously thinking about keeping it as an EDC.

Those of you out there who have a Lum, do you carry it as your EDC?

KBR,

As you can tell from my other post about the encounter with my PE Lum, you can get a pretty good idea about my love, nay, passion for the Chinese Folder. Its like a good marriage: the more struggles you go through together, the more you love each other. (Right?) Anywho, I do like to carry my Lum as a dress/fancy occasion type knife. I try hard not to let it slip into my EDC rotation, but every once in a while it pulls its seductive power over me and I'm snared into clipping it to my waistband.
I will say that it does indeed make a fine EDC. (Heck, I might just get a Jade Green just for that purpose!)

Good luck with the Lummy, KBR!

While I consider the Military my EDC, I regularly carry the Lum Chinese as well.

I was not favorably impressed by the Lum, but I turned around on that after I bought the Lil Temperance which had the Leaf style blade. I got the Lil Temperance due to my interest in the compression lock. Within a short period of time, I looked at the Leaf design in a whole new light and went and got the Lum Chinese.

One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

Recently acquired my own Lum Chinese, have been carrying it exclusively as EDC for over a week now. So far it is my new favorite. Something about the usefulness of the point, the design curve of the handle, and it might be the perfect blade length for me. Clearly a lot of thought went into this design, understated seems to be a good word. I was worried about the smooth line from the handle to the blade, however the curve in the spine seems to prevent the hand from slipping on tough jobs. Simply put, one of the finest I own right now.

I have several Spydies, but my most often carried are the GM Lum Chinese Folder, the Calypso Jnr Lwt and the G10 Native.

I nearly didn't get the Chinese folder because of the green handle. However after getting the gun metal blue version I would have absolutely no hesitation in getting the green version if ever I needed a replacement.

Walk softly, carry a big stick.

As much as I love my Lum's I don't carry them EDC. My green one I carry on sunday's to church. My grey one stays home.
I think Clay carrys one of his EDC. I'm sure he'll chime in soon.

I keep my Lum handy and carry it from time to time. I guess you cannot call it part of my EDC rotation since I don't actually carry the same knive Every Day. It is rather an Occasional Day Carry knife. Anyway, the Lum is a great knife. I have found that I really appreciate the full grind of the Lum and the Calypso both full size and Jr. They cut better than hollow grind knives in my opinion. I have taken to using my carry folders in the kitchen since I don't have the type of job that entails opening mail or boxes. The Lum does a great job of cutting up seasoning for the pot and things like cutting up chickens to fry. The only complaint I would have for any of my folders for use around the kitchen, is I appreciate a longer blade when cutting up items on the cutting board. Six inch blade or longer is great for me but the folders do a nice job anyway.

I found that the Lum also holds up well in the handle finish department. I thought that it would scratch easily but that hadn't been the case.

Too may great Sypdercos out there and so little money to go around.

My spydie lum impressed me so much. I'm now the proud owner of a Real Lum folder, made by the man himself.

I carry my green PE Chinese folder almost everyday. Its classy looks work well to gain admiration from "knon-knife-knuts" too.

Well, gosh!!! I almost bought one last Summer, but this Summer all your comments finally convinced me.. :-) Yep, I like it, a lot, but sure wish the clip wasn't all bright and shiney! Would even like to have a black clip... oh well!

Wow! I have been having conundrums over choosng a blade style for the Lil' Temperance, and had decided to try an get a Lum Chinese folder to try out the leaf style blade - sort of the reverse of the experience of a few of you. So, after I get my Milie PE, which should be on order very soon - hope, hope - I am going to order the Lum. Don't know if it will be any more available thnn the Lil' Temperance, but thats my plan. Wish me luck!
