Poll for 2010 Forum Knife
Poll for 2010 Forum Knife
In selecting knives to choose from, I eliminated Japanese knives due to the difficulty with the high yen. In view of the times, I also limited it to knives that could be priced at under $100. Loosely based on the 2009 Forum Native I arrived at selling prices by multiplying MSRP by 60%, adding $5 for blade etching, custom FRN and coffee for Kristi to stay up all night working on this, $2 for extra cost of alternate G10 over custom FRN and $3 for FFG, if the model does not already have it.
The only other non-Japanese, non-mainland China knife that was under $100 is the Chicago and I chose to not offer that as it would IMO split the CF vote with the Cat.
MISTAKE - based on my pricing scheme, the Native should have been listed at $68. I forgot it is not FFG since the only one I own is the 2009 forum Native.
I'm trying to figure out how to post a poll with:
$45? FRN UKPK
50 CF Cat
65 FRN Native
88 G10 Manix 2
97 G10 UKPK

Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

g10 or frn ukpk. nice thread sequimite but how you get the pricing? i dislike the idea of the manix as i cant edc it in nj. i love the non locking ukpk and a forum with like a tan g10 or a blue or powder blue or sky blue g10 with a spyder on the logo and not etching on the blade other the words about the 2010 spy forum

I invented a pricing method which will not be exact but should be close.SmoothOne25 wrote: how you get the pricing?

You should probably take into account that a knife that was a certain price last year might not always be the same price this year. More often than not, the prices of things go up, including Spyderco knives :o

It's guesswork, but I get the impression that along with the higher yen, it's harder to get a small run without the price going up and, perhaps most importantly, harder to get the special run coordinated. Last year when I was lobbying for an impractical knife, several of the more experienced members stated that due to logistics it really needed to be a Golden produced knife.spoonrobot wrote:Who knows where the Yen will be in 6-8 months? I'd like to write in; FRN Stretch VG10 with DLC blade and Orange handles.
I included Taiwan because with no change to the carbon fiber scales, no special coordination would be needed. In fact it would be easier.
If no model gets over 50%, we'll have a run off between the top two choices. Then a poll on scale colors.(if the Cat doesn't win)

That is a great idea.clovisc wrote:i like the idea of a FRN UKPK in some sort of interesting color, maybe with a different steel or grind. :D
Out of the ones listed I chose the Manix II, it definitely needs a good color though.

I love the idea of the Manix 2. It wouldn't matter what the steel was, even though I'm partial to the higher end. Although, the choice of a higher end steel would raise the price, so what the heck. As far as the color goes, any thing goes. But the yellow suggests H1, so the orange is a better idea.

There's definitely nothing wrong with 154CM and it would have this advantage: it will probably be the only factory FFG 154CM Manix 2 ever made
If the Manix is selected, I'll find out what the available choices are in G10. I'm guessing the Manix 2 scales are 1/16" thick and will have to find out if all the colors are available in that thickness.
We will also need a thread where the artistic among us can submit designs for what is to be etched on the blade. Sal discouraged an inset medallion due to the cost of buying it, machining the scale and insetting it, so we'll let that idea rest for now.
