Perado and Aimless welcome to the forum.

As for the Piston guns. I don't mind the standard system. I mainly shoot my AR prone or from the bench, so it doesn't get very hot. As for cleaning its kind of like therapy for me.

I couldn't resist stopping by the gunshop today on the way home. There's a Stag Arms AR-15 in there (as well as a half dozen others) for $800 that caught my eye.

It has a 16.5-inch barrel, flat-top, BUIS sights. To tell the truth I started drooling.

He had some Bushmasters, an M&P or two, a few Colts (the Colts were the most expensive).

So I put some stuff up for sale and decided to take the plunge.

Not yet. I'm waiting for a certain item to sell. Once it sells, I'm on that rifle like white on rice.

Truth be told, I might tell the gunny to put it to the side anyway, and pray that my item sells. We'll see what happens on that.

About 90 seconds ago, I got off the phone with the shop owner and had him put it aside for me. Now, when my knife sells, I'm in business.

The same owner of the shop told me that Stag is, in fact, producing ARs for S&W.

I pulled a half-dozen ARs off the shelf yesterday, checked them out, looked at bolts, actions, etc.. Compared them to each other, and honestly I didn't see much difference between them all. Naturally, I realize that there are differences, but nothing glaring stuck out at me.

Mostly, I was looking to see if gas keys were staked down to the bolt carrier, and most seemed to be.

I'm also going to trade in my AK and accessories in order to get a crapload of AR mags and ammo. I want to outfit this baby right off the bat. This is going to be my main semi-auto rifle.

I'll be sure to post pics. I just sold the knife that I needed to in order to buy this, so I should have the rifle by next week.

Need anything? How about dozens of magazines? :D

Good for you guys there, in the USA. I would be happy with a some Czech Vz.58 or Hungarian AMP-69 (best AK-47 variant in the world, said by Jane's Infantry Weapons, and they know it well) here in Hungary. Cheap dreaming of mine, knowing our politicians and lawmakers... :(

The one I have handled, and most lusted for: Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special. A local Baer dealer usually has one or two in stock. Yes, my Baer TRS 1911 pistol, which has been 100% reliable for me, does enter into my thought process here. Actually, if having an AR built, with cost no object, I would choose a different forend, as I don't need so much real estate devoted to rails.

As I have a sweet Mini-14 with a quite high-end Sage International SCAR-style stock, however, I doubt I will be acquiring any high-end AR15, unless I hit some kind of financial jackpot. My pre-ban Colt HBAR upper, mounted on an S&W M&P15 lower, may be all the AR15 I will be owning for the foreseeable future. Perhaps another upper, with a lighter/shorter barrel.

There is a reason I prefer utility-grade AR15s. To me, an AR is a tool of my trade, and these photos depict a more likely event than my actually needing a rifle:
